PureAGT Season 8, Live Show #1 – SPOILERS!!! Who Made it Through to the Next Round?
Well, that was a rather odd first live results show, if I do say so – one musical act (performing a song that has already worn out its welcome on AGT this season), followed by two groups of three acts where NOBODY made it through, one group of three where two made it through, and a final group of three where one made it through instantly and the judges picked from the remaining two. The whole rhythm of tonight’s show just felt really…awkward to me. Just like last night’s show. I think they may still be playing with the format a bit to see what works and what doesn’t…
…and now that I’ve wasted enough space to spare those on Twitter, I can reveal that the 4 acts advancing to the semifinals are the Kristef Brothers, Collins Key, Branden James, and Anna Christine (who beat out The American Hit Men in the judges’ choice for the last spot, by virtue of 2 votes for each and Anna getting more viewer votes overall). Overall, I think I’m ok with the acts that made it through – I would have personally taken the Hit Men over Anna, just due to the fact that she really crumbled under the pressure last night while they didn’t; but I think we will see the Hit Men again in the wild card round, and maybe Alexanderia the Great as well.
So what do you guys think of tonight’s results? Did the right 4 acts make it through?
I’m really happy with the acts that made it through overall. Really glad Kirstef Brothers, Anna, and Collins made it. I would’ve rather seen American Hit Men or Alex make it over Branden, but I’m happy for him too.
I’m hoping that American Hit Men come back as a wild card. Alex too. I do feel that American Hit Men probably will come back since it was so close and the judge seemed to really love them.
Thankfully, last season the judges opted to bring back ALL of the acts that did not make it through in the judges choice the first time around, for the wild card – hopefully they do the same thing this year. The rest of the acts chosen were a random mix of other acts from the live shows, and some who didn’t get past Vegas. I think each judge got to pick 4 – now I guess it’s down to three, since we have one more judge. I bet Mel picks Hit Men as one of her picks.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure (and I hope) we’ll see them back. On a somewhat related note, I really hope Paul Thomas Mitchell gets brought back as well.
Excited to see Collins, the Kristef brothers, and Anna through. I like Branden, but I don’t think I’d miss him too much had he gone home. I hope to see American Hitman in Wild Card as well.
I liked Fresh Faces, but I feel their attempt at making their dance more suitable for Radio City Music Hall blew up in their faces. When kid acts interest me I’ll look them up to see performances pre AGT. I feel like Fresh Faces should’ve taken a risk, proven their versatility, and done a lyrical piece. Something cute and age appropriate. Maybe dress up as Disney princesses and dance to A Whole New World. Random question for Courtney: As I was looking for pre AGT performances, I found out that two of the girls won a Disney dance contest and were featured in an episode of Zendaya’s show. Had the girls asked Zendaya to plead to her over 3 million twitter followers to vote for them, do you think they would’ve made it to at least 5th place in Judge’s choice?
Thanks for the update, Courtney! I picked 3 out of 4, pretty good for a first shot 🙂
I hope American Hitmen are a wild card pick.
@Rebecca – I’m honestly not sure – based on what I witnessed from Zendaya being on DWTS this past season, she seems to have quite a bit of influence, but I’m not sure if that influence on her fans would really extend to them voting for someone she asked them to. It was one thing for her to ask them to vote for HER on DWTS…not sure if they would be as motivated to vote for some random person on another show that she mentioned. I almost think Collins is pulling in so many votes from lovestruck young girls that any potential influx of votes from ZSwaggers for Fresh Faces might be cancelled out – heck, the kid makes me feel like a dirty old woman at 28! 😛
All I can say is WEAK NIGHT. Collins and Kristef brothers were great, and Branden was good, but I wish that they had put those 3 through and save a spot for the inevitable loaded night. Special Head made an epic Sandou Trio-styled choke. The sad thing is unless an unexpected act steps up, I’m not really feeling next week either. Collins could go all the way. Haven’t figured out either of his last 2 tricks. Hype also annoys me. They give less each time.
