Airpocalypse Wannabes on America’s Got Talent 2011
Update: Word is that they might not be an air guitar band after all, but a real band. Funny that the show would name them the Airpocalypse Wannabes on their site then.
I got a note from a member of the air guitar group that was on the last season of America’s Got Talent: Airpocalypse. It said:
Hi All! Obviously, we think this is great… http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/node/309 Airpocalypse Loves You! ~X
To save you having to click the link. It has a picture (seen below) on the official AGT audition website of what’s labeled “Airpocalypse Wannabes.” I guess we should have seen it coming. I think Piers (if he’s back) will have a field day ripping them in favor of the originals. Although, I have to say that the note from the original Airpocalypse shows what classy guys they are. Makes me feel good they made it as far as they did.
Where are the recent comments on agt 2011 callbacks can u give me a link
on3ofakind,
Well, we haven’t had that much this year. I think there were a few threads with stuff, but not too much. Probably mostly because I’ve been a bit lazy (some might say busy) this year.
Although I found Airpocalypse very entertaining last season (to a certain extent), I recognize this group in the photo above. They are called Great White Lion Snake, and they are based out of Middle Georgia. While they do look like Airpocalypse, they indeed have a “real” talent…these guys play actual instruments and are the premier ’80s hair metal cover band in the Southeast. They do everything from Motley Crue to Gun ‘n Roses to Ratt to Van Halen, and virtually everything in between. I’ve seen concerts put on by the original bands, and these guys play the songs better and put on the most realistic show you can imagine. As a fan of this site, I strongly think you should give credit where it is due and own up to a mistake, as these guys will be a new group portraying a new talent on AGT. Evidence of my support can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmla9N7TtiM
Cheers~
Mike
Thanks for sharing Mike. I’ve updated the post.
What’s up, AGT fans!? This is Jef Leppard from Great White Lion Snake. I’m glad to see people are talking about us, but I wanted to clear up any confusion as to what our band is about. We are not like Airpocalypse at all! We actually play real music. I play lead guitar and we have a drummer, bassist, and lead singer. We’re an all ’80s hair metal tribute band and I think ALL of you will really enjoy our performances! Here’s another live clip for you to check out. ROCK ON!
Jef,
Thanks for stopping by. I think an ’80s hair tribute band will do well on AGT. Much different than Airpocalypse. Sorry for the mistake. It still seems odd to me that on the AGT audition site they would label you as such.
This said, it’s not a bad thing to be compared with Airpocalypse since many liked them and their style.
I just saw this post and had to write in to let you know this is a “REAL” band. They are really playing the instruments and singing! They are extremely talented and have played many venues throughout the southeast! Please give them the credit they deserve for the real Rockers that they are!
Oh no hold up. This isn’t an air whatever you call it, this is a true band with some truly amazing talent. Not only are they excellent musicians, but great performers taking the stage and the audience by the throat.
Funny, I just found about this and was going to email John and then I saw that he had beat me to the punch (Of course he did!)
Jef Leppard — Nothing but best of wishes and luck to you and the rest of the guys! KICK SOME AXE! Hopefully, you’ll let us open for you after ya’ll win!!! Email us at airpocalypse@gmail.com
I guess I know who I am voting for early this year…

Looks like I’m just piling on at this point but one more account won’t hurt.
Great White Lion Snake is NOT an air band!! They are an ensemble of truly talented musicians. Entertainers. Performers. A face-melting 80s tribute that hasn’t been felt since the originals whom they are honoring with said tribute.
GWLS Rules!!
These guys know one thing, how to just BRING IT!!!! With face-melting, hair bending, metal, they bring a HUGE gathering to any bar in town and can ROCK with the best of them!! Long-live Great White Lion Snake!!!! And long-live ROCK!!!! Thanks for doing what you do, Mid-GA def. appreciate’s you!!!
So I just want to be clear. Is Great White Lion Snake an Air band? or not? lol
They better make the show now or I’ll be extremely disappointed.
GWLS is a great band! I have seen them live a couple of times in Warner Robins GA! Love these guys they rock!
I saw these guys live for our b-day and all I can say is they kicked ass. They are the real deal and absolutely kill everything they perform.
Thanks so much for all the kind words, everyone!
GREAT WHITE LION SNAKE ROCKS!!
I auditioned in L.A. on Oct. 23 as a stand-up comic(Bad idea!) I decided to stop playing characters, and do what I do best – sing! I submitted an audition DVD(which turned out great, thanks to my cameraperson!) about a week ago. John – I was just wondering – do you have any idea when the DVD audition people might hear anything if they HAVE been selected? Thanks for any info you can provide!
Peggy,
I’ll start off with my obligatory disclaimer that this is just an AGT fan site and I am not part of the show or claim any connection to the show. I just enjoy the show and like to give fans of the show a place to chat.
This said, you’re right stand up is hard on AGT. Not enough time to do it well.
Hard to say about the audition DVD. Especially since it’s singing. If it was something more unique I’d say there’s a better chance that you get called since they like to round out various cities with performers. However, it seems like finding a good singer in a city would be pretty easy in most cases since singers are easier to find.
One thing is certain. You won’t hear anything unless you get selected for the show. So, you’ll just have to wait for the auditions to progress. Once they’ve happened, then you’ll know you didn’t make it. Until then, you never know if the producers might happen upon it and need a to round out the talent they need in a specific city.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they also use the DVD or online submissions to encourage people to audition for the next season. So, maybe they won’t use you this season, but if they like your submission they could call or contact you to audition next season (assuming it gets renewed, but it’s looking good right now).
I hope this helps.
