I will be shocked if Connor Doran does not make it to the semifinals. His performance was the most moving of the night. I shed a few tears when I saw that performance. It was just amazing. (Side note: How many times has that song been used on the show over the course of 5 seasons?)
Tonight was the first time I found Doogie Horner really funny. The first three were not that great, but tonight he was really good. His last joke was a bit hidden, I didn’t catch it until the second time through.
Michael & Ashleigh were good, but I wonder what people will remember more, the trick or the dance? There is one thing they have going for them. Check out the breakdown below of who has advanced by spot in the show this season:
#1: None of the five acts have been in the top 5.
#2: 2 of 5 have advanced to the semifinals.
#3: 1 of 5 in top 5, none in semifinals.
#4: 1 of 5 in top 5, none in semifinals.
#5: None of the five acts have been in the top 5.
#6: 2 of 5 have advanced to the semifinals.
#7: 1 of 5 have advanced to the semifinals.
#8: 1 of 5 in top 5, none in semifinals.
#9: 4 of 5 in top 5, 2 of 5 in semifinals.
#10: 4 of 5 have advanced to the semifinals.
#11: 5 of 5 have advanced to the semifinals.
#12: 4 of 5 have advanced to the semifinals.
Beyond Connor and Doogie, I don’t feel really strongly about any of the others. Any combination of Michael & Ashleigh, Michael Grasso, Harmonica Pierre, and Anna & Patryk would be fine with me.
I noticed the same thing you did Jason about most of the acts getting through being in the second half of the show. I think that might be because producers save their favorite acts for the end, or it could be because we all have short memories haha.
Agree that Doogie was actually funny tonight, but I kind of hope he doesn’t got through because I don’t think he’ll be that funny again unless he comes up with more AGT jokes.
And while I do agree that Conor has a great chance of going through, I still insist that kite flying is NOT a talent. He might get partly a sympathy vote because of his disease, and CJ might as well because he was crying at the end (which I wouldn’t horribly mind since he’s been good in the past).
RNG were my faves, but they weren’t as good as they were in their first live show (though I loved their use of Howie’s critique in their act). Same with Anna and Patryk. I liked Harmonica Pierre and Rudi the first time but they both bored me this time. My top four would be RNG, Anna and Patryk, and the two Michaels (the magician and the trapeze dancing people). But I’m not overly attached to anyone in this group.
By the way did anyone find it odd that Howie basically revealed who his three favorites are (Michael Grimm, Fighting Gravity, and Jackie Evancho). Not that it’s much of a stretch, since one of those three will probably win, but I did find it weird that he was willing to be so forthright about who he thinks the best acts are
Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is both with the end acts. The producers’ favorite acts are placed at the end to take advantage of people’s short memories.
Great breakdown Jason. Is there a reason we don’t have you blogging on this site?
I agree that Connor will go through on the story vote. Kind of like my favorites, Christina and Alli, did. Although, I have to admit that Connor’s performance live is pretty memorizing. Don’t ask me why.
Rudi was the biggest disappointment. He has so much more talent than what he displayed on that episode. Too bad really. Plus, they need to highlight his lady friend more. She would have made him a better story I think.

Now that we know the results, look back at the reader poll. The voters got it EXACTLY RIGHT. The acts that got the highest percentage of votes for making the most of their second chance (Michael Grasso, Anna and Patryk, Connor Doran and Michael & Ashleigh) all made it into the semis. Nice job AGT readers! I happen to agree 100%. While I loved CJ Dippa, his performance in the second chance show was pretty weak. Even he was man enough to admit it. Rudi blew it too with the dragging out of the set-up and minimal payoff. Doogie Horner was too little too late though he was rather funny.

Oh man, come on, Connor. C.J. is horrible.
YES! YES YES YES!
