America’s Got Talent 2010 Premiere Date Set
America’s Got Talent 2010 will premiere its fifth season on June 1 at 8/7c. Then, America’s Got Talent 2010 will move to Wednesdays on June 2 at 9/8c. The Hoff has left his AGT judges seat and was replaced by new judge Howie Mandel, who joins Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan. Nick Cannon will still be the host of America’s Got Talent 2010.
After seeing all the talented people who have auditioned for AGT 2010, I’m really excited for this season. I always forget that the show doesn’t start until summer. I guess with all the talk on this site about the America’s Got Talent 2010 auditions, I feel like the show should be just around the corner.
I am sooooo looking forward to it.
Hey, going way back to the first time I came across your site, DOES anyone know what’s up with Eli Mattson??????????????????????
woooooooooo wait, June 1?? wow that’s early! Usually it’s in mid june to july! Right? haha. Hope I get called back! If you wanna listen to me, check out my videos! I’m 14 🙂

Cameron,
I think it did usually start well into June. Not sure why they changed. I’m glad it’s sooner though. It always seemed to butt up right against the Fall lineup.
Nice video. You can tell you you’ve got some potential. A few pitch problems. You also seem to be thinking about it a little too much. Smile more and relax and you’ll be surprised how much better a performance you’ll do. Best of luck!
k, thanks for the advice! 🙂
Wow, Cameron!!! You have a really really good voice!!
The video kept freezing every few words, but it was enough for me to see you can really sing.
AND….You’re very cute!!!! Sorry, you’re a guy, I should have said very good looking. Good luck!!!!
I just read in this Sunday’s PARADE magazine insert that Kevin Skinner, last year’s “million dollar winner” chose to “take the money over the long term, $25,000 a year for 40 years”. That’s probably a good annual salary for him in his little home town, but it’s certainly not a life changing amount. He is planning on putting out an album, as of yet untitled, shooting for a release at the end of March.
Interesting about the winner’s purse. Glad he spread it out, this way nobody can rook him out of half of a lump sum reduced payment.
StevieCat,
We’ll have to watch for the album to come out. I’m sure many will want to check out what he produces.
I auditioned in Dallas. Wondering if any Dallas people were called back. Still waiting.
you can check out some of my singing on my youtube page.

thanks
Jonathan
Jonathan, let me tell you if that song “We’re Through” that you sang in your YouTube video were available on a CD, I would buy it TODAY. OMG, you are such a talent. It was more like listening to the radio than a self posted video on YouTube. It was THAT good.
If they are totally tone deaf and don’t call you back, please please please try again next year. Don’t stop trying until you get on the air. You have a great style and are one of the few people who post their YouTube links on here that can truly sing.
Totally amazing.
Thanks so much for the compliment!! I have heard that some people got called back into the audition room again,,and noone from my group got called back in. Don’t know if that means anything or not.
I was in a Band called rolo’s pocket, we had cd’s and shirts, but 2 of the members thought that dallas didn’t like us so they left. Now im solo…you can find the cd on itunes. ….just type in Rolo’s pocket
thanks again
jonathan
Those judges wouldn’t know talent if it came up and slapped them in the face…remember the rapping grandma and the comedian grandma? They make it and YOU don’t? I don’t get it. I’m still hopeful that they’ll call you.
And thanks for the heads up on the iTunes. I’ll be heading over there.
One more thing, what’s the background on the name, Rolo’s Pocket? It’s an interesting name.
K, I have a question. I gave them my phone number, my home # and email. Well, today I got a call from 1-969-608-60 today at 8:59. I was in school and my phone was on silent so i didn’t know. Then it called back at 9:00 as “unknown #” Then again that same minute an “unknown #” called again. Then at 9:07 the “969-608-60” number called again. and again the same minute. then the “unknown #” called again at 9:22.
What’s weird is that it was 8 digits so I couldn’t call back. It said “call cannot be completed as dialed”.
Am I just focused so much on AGT that I maybe thought it was them? lol. I never get these calls on my phone so I’m very curious….but it could have been a prank caller or a toll free number or whatever so I don’t know.but I NEVER get those…but it’s killing me not knowing…..><
Oh, that’s maddening. if it were me, I’d look up their number and try to contact them to explain and ask them if they called me. I just couldn’t live with that!!! You must be so anxious.
haha. I mean, I seriously doubt it’s them but I’m just wondering, it’s buggin me..lol
nevermind. Mia Boostrom said it would be an 818 number…hahahahaa
rolo was the name of a character from sanford and son…he was always suspected of taking things….and when you are really in the groove musically they call it ” in the pocket”…so rolo’s pocket…also we used to throw rolo’s candy out when we played
I remember Rolo AND the candy!!
Loved the story behind the name of the band. Thanks.
here is our old myspace

Seems such a shame that the group disbanded. I hope you make it, you truly deserve it.
Hey, I auditioned and Dallas and I was thinking about this…Isn’t it a little late to be getting calls? I mean, on the official site it says no calls have been made yet but it’s on the 25th and 26th, which is in less than 2 weeks….isn’t that late already to be giving calls out to the people who made it? Do you think they’ve already called the people who made it?
Andy,
I’ve heard of people getting a call even a few days before the audition. You have to remember they’re doing all of these auditions in back to back cities, so there’s not much time to plan ahead for these things.
Hello,
I did not decide to enter AGT until last week. According to their website, people can still audition via video submission. The deadline for that is March 21st. I submitted my video last night. Has anyone auditioned like me? I’m just wondering if it’s too late , like they’ve already have chosen who they gonna call back. Any comments would be appreciated. Good luck to all!
I am a fan of this singer, she auditioned for AGT and was, for some reason set up to look and sound bad. I was told by someone who went to the Portland taping that she was “attacked” by the judges before she ever started singing and then told she was tone-deaf…if that is the case, then why does she have so many “gigs” on her website and what looks like a steady stream of work for the past 3 years? Are all the people who hire her to sing wrong…including the restaurant on the Vegas strip that she recently sang at?? See for yourself, is the whole show fake??

kelly,
That’s not surprising. They hear someone for a few minutes and they have to make a decision. No doubt lots of talented people never make it on the show. I don’t think that makes it fake. Yes, it is a little disheartening when you first realize that the show is being “produced” but at least for me I just sit back and let them entertain me. They’re still making a number of dreams come true even if they can only show so many people on the show.
But, they started being rude BEFORE she started singing, that is what makes it suspect. And how funny if they air her segment only to have the local affliates (which is where I first saw her) show her performing at one of her shows singing beautifully. These lose all credibility. I have watched the show in the past, but always lose interest, except for Terry Fator, there’s been no one I would walk across the street to see for free. I guess it appeals to a different audience.
To each their own. I loved Julienne Irwin and Jessica Price for example. They were fantastic. Cas Haley and Eli Mattson were also really great too.
Don’t recognize those names, so I can’t say.
Ok so me and my friend Baylee sang, we did a duet but we sent it by mail and it reached there on saturday the 27 of March and how does that exactly work? Will they call you and say “hey you’ve made it” and that stuff…adn how long does it usually take?
And if you dont make it, do they not call you? please respond back.
take in consideration
Graysen Ruedy and Baylee Barnard Thank you
Graysen,
Remember that this is just a fan site. You should consult the official site for official info.
With that disclaimer in place, the show has made it quite clear that they will only contact those that they invite to the next round. You won’t hear anything from the show if you don’t make it.
Best of luck!
Hey – if any of you are fans of AGT finalist Daniel Jens, this army veteran is now a member of the music group, 4TROOPS. He’s joined by 3 other talented former soldiers singing patriotic and uplifting pop and country songs. The record is available for pre-order now! Check out http://www.4troopsmusic.com.
I auditioned in Philadelphia. Every city except Philadelphia has call-back dates for taping. They say the decisions will last until mid-April. What’s the deal with Philly?
Hey John I don’t know if you saw this but Marcus Terrell (I think that was his name)- the guy who auditioned with the Serenades last year and then had to dump them to make the top 40- he is auditioning for a role on Glee. Apparently he was also on season 3 of Idol though I don’t remember him
Thanks for sharing Melissa. I’ll have to do a little more research and then post an update on him.
@John “They hear someone for a few minutes and they have to make a decision. No doubt lots of talented people never make it on the show.”
I don’t think the few minutes thing is exactly correct. I think what we hear on TV is a few minutes even seconds, but I think the actual audition is much longer. A few minutes is not little – some songs are 3 minutes in their entirety. Remember Dorothy Bishop, the contrast between her excellent singing everywhere and her awful performance on TV. Also her explanation on how the rest of her audition was fine except for this little passage that they showed.
I also remember a successful audition where a piece started not at the beginning but about 2/3 later. There were some rough notes at the beginning that, so my question was – how was the real beginning.
I think what happens is that they show us the best moments of successful auditions and the worst moments of unsuccessful auditions.
Another element of “fakiness” is music choice or rather producer’s power in music selection even at the first audition (again – see Dorothy Bishop post here). This creates unfairness especially for singers as not every voice is suitable for every single selection.
As to talented people not making it even in front of the judges – this is obvious, I think. I would imagine, for example, that anybody however talented and accomplished would face an uphill battle if this person doesn’t have a good background story. This seems obvious for two reasons – generally low level of talent compared to people who perform at the professional level or even study to perform or compete at a professional level (AGT dancers vs TYTYCD, kids playing instruments, opera singers, probably Broadway too); the fact that everyone who gets to finals does indeed have a background story or something – accident, “surprise” factor, illness, etc..
kitty,
Sure, some of them they see more, but when we’re talking about the masses we’re talking about a few minute audition before they judge if they’re going to want to see more or not. No doubt a lot of people get missed in that process.
The other point about people being talented, but not having a good story is a great one. Talent isn’t enough to be on the show. I think AGT has often gone too far in trying to tell a story every time. They should take from AI where a lot of people have stories, but sometimes the people are just talented and that’s fine.
One thing that bugs me about “stories” in addition that the show is less about talent than about stories is that these stories are repeated again and again and again. The only exception was Terry Fator but he was special in both talent, uniqueness and suitability for Vegas.
I don’t see why they consider letting us hear the same thing over and over and over … to the point that we can recite it by heart as “entertaining”. We are all intelligent people, we got it the first time around, we’d much rather see more talent and less repetition of same old stories. So many people say – I wish we’d seen more talent; hardly anybody says – I’d love to hear the same background story again, I don’t think I got it the first time. Yet, for some reason they still feel they need to tell it again.
Not to mention that they are subtly telling us whom they want us to vote for by showing some stories over and over and glossing over others. Some people get lots of airtime from the start while others we see for the first time at the semifinals. Then they also omit the professional/educational background of some contestants but tell us about that background of other contestants. So people think some people are untrained amateurs when they have degrees and others are ‘professionals’ when in fact both have exactly the same or similar background. I personally don’t have a problem with people having education/prior experience – they all want to be professionals, they all want us to eventually pay to watch them, so at some point “oh, he is just an amateur” excuse wears off, but why hide it?
Kitty, I think the reason they keep repeating the stories over and over and over again is, in my opinion, for 2 reasons.
1. There are new people who tune in all the time, so they are making sure that even if it is your first time watching, you know what everyone else is talking about, and
2. It’s a reality show, not a talent contest in my opinion. It makes for what they THINK is good TV and not necessarily for who is best. But, it can be a huge stepping stone to their first big break in show business although nothing like how American Idol is because there is a specific talent there, not this mixed bag of cheer that for most of them has no specific place in show business. There are no more Ed Sullivan shows so where do the dance acts (with 20 people in them) go from there?
I know that this stuff frustrates Piers. How many times has he said you have to vote for the talent and not the stories or the tears.
By the way, I caught the last 7 minutes of Howie Mandell on the Ellen Show. OMG, Heaven Help Us. I hope he doesn’t act like such a loon on the show or I’m going to throw up. He was ridiculous. Just ridiculous. It’s ok for stand up comedy, but PLEASE don’t bring that idiocy to the judging panel. I sincerely hope he doesn’t.
“It’s a reality show, not a talent contest in my opinion. It makes for what they THINK is good TV and not necessarily for who is best.”
This is absolutely true. However, is watching the same stories again good TV? Is it entertaining? Your point about new people tuning in is a good one, but there is a limit. How many new people really tune after first few weeks? How many of them are there vs those who are watching week after week. There has to be some balance between what new people really need or want to see and what viewers who’ve watched from the beginning want to see.
I hate to bring up “The Audition” again, but regardless of if you care about opera or not, the format of this documentary filmed in almost a reality-tv format showed, I think, how a movie or show about a competition can be made compelling viewing without background stories AGT-way, without producers’ telling performers what to sing or to dance, without buzzing and other cheap tactics.
John mention when he “announced” it in his blog how he didn’t expect it to be as entertaining as AGT, but I think it was more so (at least if you exclude “bad” auditions” part of AGT), though “entertaining” is probably not the right word especially given the tragic fate of one of the featured contestants. But it was compelling viewing because of
1. amazing talent
2. inside look into the business, idea of what it takes to succeed
3. surprisingly honest revelations from the contestants that told you more about their personalities in just a few minutes than what you ever learned about contestants on AGT (especially from the youngest and maybe one of if not the most talented guy whose brains were clearly not keeping up with his mouth; or maybe he wanted to show the truth in Anna Russell’s joke: “opera singers have resonance where most of us have brains”, or maybe it was nerves).
4. Knowledgeable judges openly talking about what they look for including not just details of performance but also aspects like contestant’s weight or age. In comparison, the judges deliberations on “Vegas” segments on AGT were just complete filler with nothing at all interesting – unless you consider humiliating the contestants, raising their hopes and then dashing them entertainment. BTW – one thing The Audition showed is that while there are of course rejections in a real life competition, the judges and Met stuff are extremely respectful and supportive and genuinely want contestants to achieve their highest potential.
5. No background stories except for glimpses of them from what some of the contestants choose to reveal
6. Raw tension and honest emotions — you can literally see how nervous some of the contestants are just from body posture as they prepare; looks on other contestants’ faces when a more talented contestant sings which is a mixture of cheering for the other guy and fear for their own chances.
Now, obviously, AGT is different. For example, given that TV audience votes, I doubt AGT contestants would ever be as open in their remarks, though the camera may still catch some things if the contestants aren’t coached. But even if they cannot have these type of revelations, I’d rather just see more talent than constant repeat of background stories. But while AGT cannot obviously be the same as a documentary about real competition, I think there are things AGT producers could’ve learned from Susan Fromke (an award-winning producer of The Audition).
There is also lots of “fakiness” in emotions we see on AGT. “What does it mean to you?” “Everything”. Isn’t it obvious? Do they really need to keep asking this question? “Do you think you have what it takes to win it?” – regardless of what the contestants think, there is no way they are going to answer honestly, so what is the point of asking? If we cannot see real emotions and not predictable canned answers, I’d rather see an extra contestant…
Kitty, all that being said, I still enjoy the show and have an imaginary countdown to June for when it comes on. I don’t let it aggravate me that much. It’s just a silly show that I happen to find to be a lot of fun although there are many annoying circumstances.
I enjoy the show too; otherwise, I wouldn’t be there. I just think it could be improved. Some of the things I mentioned are part of SYTYCD – knowledgeable judges, more talent, fewer background stories, fewer predictable questions, which is why I look forward to that show more.
I watch AGT, but when it conflicts with SYTYCD, I always choose SYTYCD. So I do watch AGT, but when there is something better on another channel, I watch that. I think AGT is entertaining, but it has potential to be a lot better.
kitty,
I agree that SYTYCD is better than AGT (I run this site as well: http://www.puresytycd.com ). Although, it’s a little different to get dance judges than to get someone who’s knowledgeable across the broad spectrum of talent in AGT. Although, if you watch the British judges, you realize that they got it right and the US ones haven’t…yet?
I was on AGT and have received music scholarships and performed on many stages. The audience was on their feet during my segment before the British judges started buzzing me. Thank God I had friends and relatives there as no one would have believed that I was well received from the audience. As if on cue, as soon as I played a few perfectly in tune notes on my instrument after singing, they buzzed. The audience and I was shocked. When they aired it, they showed a booing audience (not mine) sliced in from a different city, a slight piece of me introducing myself, none of the singing, and just awful editing to make me look foolish with the phony audience. I continue to perform with rave reviews, but this was by far the worst music experience of my life. Had I known it was not a “real” show, I would have never subjected myself to this.
Sam, when were you on??? Was it this season?
Wow, this news is REALLY shocking. Thank you for letting us know and I’m so sorry it worked out this way. How horrible for you!!!!!
Which night was it on? What instrument did you play & which song were you singing?
P.S. To Sam:
And yet they sent through that crazy red haired elderly lady with the lipstick all over her face and the black eyebrows!!! Just disgraceful!!!
