Final 5 America’s Got Talent 4 Finalists
The pairings in this episode of AGT weren’t good at all. Maybe it was just me, but it was really predictable. A couple locks (Barbara and Lawrence). Hairo was more popular than the little kids. Recycled Percussion did a much better performance than Mario and Jenny.
Of course, if you’ve read this blog the only group I’ve ever been really excited over was the EriAm Sisters. I think they have the most potential in this season and they’re the only act that has given me chills this season. So, obviously I hate that Drew Stevyns made it through and the EriAm Sisters did not. I guess it proves the fact that it’s a bunch of women and little girls who are voting for the cute boy. Grrrrr…that’s all I have to say about that. I’ll miss the EriAm sisters. I hope they somehow get invited to perform in the AGT Las Vegas show. Otherwise, I’m not sure I want to go.
I think the show actually did a pretty good job of trying to say that it was just the judges who decided to only put through 5 instead of 4. However, maybe that was just good cutting. Still felt like they had it planned the whole way to me.
Yes, this season is going down as extremely disappointing for me. Let’s just get it over and get on to next year’s talent;-)
Oh, man, when I saw them bring up Ricki and what’s her name with the piano guy Ou, (how quickly I forget the names!!!…old age…), I thought “Oh, man, one of THESE two made it through? ugh”. So you can imagine how relieved I was when Nick announced they both were eliminated. That was a right choice. And, contrary to my liking the eye candy named Drew, I was rooting for the EriAm Sisters to have made it. Drew is not a very talented singer but was oh so nice to look at. I didn’t vote for him because out of all of the serious contenders, he had the least talent. Of course, John would say that’s so contrary to my voting for Kevin Skinner, but that’s another story all together!
I’m sorry, and I know I stand alone in this, but I cannot take anymore of Barbara Padilla. And that dress was so obnoxious. I’m not saying she’s not talented, I’m sure she is. But I’m so stinking sick of all the hype and the judges falling all over her, etc. I don’t think she’s the huge opera talent that the judges think she is. Yes, she’s a fine soprano, but I would love for an opera expert or opera buff to weigh in here on this because I have no expertise on the subject and dislike it intensely so my opinion is probably biased as far as her singing in concerned. But the whole bru-ha-ha about her is starting to get on my nerves. Why don’t the judges just tell everyone else to go home.
This isn’t only about talent, it’s about entertaining and there are several acts in the competition that are more entertaining than she is. I couldn’t bear the thought of listening to her for 90 minutes, and at a Vegas show yet.
I’m very glad that Heiro made it through and disappointed that Mario and Jenny got so full of themselves that they blew their chances.
I wonder what the Hoff meant when he told them they were going to be in a Vegas show anyway? Perhaps they’re part of the Vegas act that the winner will be in? If so, they need to get the EriAm sisters in too. Those girls were great and they could have really been “discovered” in Vegas.
And, I’m not believing for a minute the interlude they showed of the judges deciding not to make a decision. I think the votes came in first and then the producers didn’t want to let one of the acts go, so this was rehearsed and staged. And when nobody fell for it, they had the video to fall back on. Also, it has always been the top TEN that went to the finals, not the top eight.
I’m confused.
Hi Guys:
The results weren’t too surprising to me, except for Drew beating out the EriAm Sisters, because IMO they are better singers than he is.
I am delighted that Hairo made it through, he’s my favorite, and I think he’s cute.
I agree with StevieCat on Barbara Padilla… I don’t get chills from her singing, but she has a lot of class. I wanted to tell Sharon to stow the kowtowing, however… that was obnoxious. I like the clothes Barbara wears, and I liked the jewelry she had on with that tan dress. Much of Sharon’s jewelry, especially her rings, are, alas, hideous.
As I said before, singing does not seem to flow easily from Drew … he seems to have to fight the music and force it out of himself. But, in the interests of even-handedness, since I have suggested a song for Lawrence Beamen (One in a Million Chance of a Lifetime), I hereby suggest that Drew sing “Under the Milky Way” by The Church for the finals.
But, let’s recap: in the top ten there are six singers/singing groups, and only four other acts: Grandma Lee, Hairo Torres, Fab Five, and Recycled Percussion. So if the past is any indication, a singer will win this year as well.
Borrrrrinnnggggg….
Hey everyone,
Nice comments. I’ll reply more later (probably).
However, tomorrow morning I get a chance to interview Grandma Lee. Let’s hear the questions you think I should ask her.
WoooHooo, how did you swing an interview with Grandma Lee??? Good going!
I’d like to ask her if she ever had tried to pursue a career in show business in the past and if so, what sidelined her? Or was it just a callling she always had deep inside of her like musicians feeling they have to play (like the Rolling Stones in their 60’s and Aerosmith still touring, etc), or a painter needing to paint or actors having the constant urge to perform. Was it something artistic like that or something she had to abandon because family came along and she put herself on the back burner.
I’d also ask her how long she was married, how old she was when she first got married, did she work outside the home (and if so, what job) or was she a homemaker. Biographical stuff like that.
Silly, but I’d also ask her what her favorite foods are. Don’t know why, just filler stuff I suppose. It’s interesting what makes people tick.
P.S. I’d also ask her about her journey to the auditions. Whose idea it was, how long she stood in line, was she nervous.
Also, what the judges are like off camera.
Oh, and one more thing…..it may be tacky, but I’m so curious, I’d ask if they are paid for their performances, rehearsals, etc. In other words, do they get a paycheck every week, are meals provided, what’s the behind the scenes life like when they’re not performing.
Now, aren’t you sorry you asked????? :0)
Of course, I’m not sorry I asked. I can always not use it if I don’t like it…lol
Actually, I love to have ideas. It starts me thinking as well.
The only ones I’m sure I won’t use is the how much she gets paid/etc. You ask those after they’re off the show. There will be a moderator I’m told to listen to the interview. Not sure how that will work.
I think you should have an interview with the EriAm Sisters. I am sure there is a lot what America has to discover about these girls. Do you know they have a single called BFF and a bunch of other songs on their myspace? Their youtube “transhorn” has even more history about the girls. I think America Got Talent did not show their mad talent. I hope they get a chance and someone signs them.
My next favorite act is Hairo
Tes,
I’d love to do an interview with the EriAm sisters. I’ll have to look them up on Facebook and YouTube and see if they’ll do an interview with me. I know they sometimes have restrictions based on what they signed with AGT, but I’ll try.
Hi John:
Can’t wait for the results of your interview. If she can dish about the judges, that would be interesting. Also, as StevieCat suggested, the mechanics of standing in line, signing up, etc. I think StevieCat’s suggestions are good. (I didn’t see your question until today, but I think StevieCat got things covered).
Turns out I got to interview Grandma Lee, Barbara Padilla, Kevin Skinner and Drew. I think Lawrence might have been there as well, but I missed one of the names. Plus, I only had like 7 minutes to interview all of them.
No doubt it was frenetic and I couldn’t cover everything that well in that short of a time. Plus, I was surprised when everyone was on the line and not just Grandma Lee.
Anyway, I’ll be posting it for all to listen. Just need to find some decent audio editing software.
Oh, Boy!! Kevin AND Drew??? Did you tell them I love them???? Did you, huh? Did you? Did you tell them how much you hate that Donna and I love them??? LOL!! Just kidding. :0)
StevieCat,
I posted the interview: https://pureamericasgottalent.com/2009/09/11/americas-got-talent-finalists-interview/ Have you listened to it?
I’ll give you a preview. I told Kevin that all of these women on my site are in love with him. How was it to have all these women love him? (something like that) Yes, I was thinking about you and donna.
When you hear the interview you’ll see I was kind of scrambling. I was only suppose to have Grandma Lee for 5 minutes. Instead I had 4 of them for 7 minutes. Pretty crazy, but fun.
I didn’t tell him I hate him. Since I don’t. I just hate that my EriAm sisters were sent home;-)
OK, John and StevieCat:
Put on the brakes, both of you! I am not in love with any of the singers, not even the blond tenor (maybe he should sing “Headin’ out to Eden, yea, brother…”). I think they seem like lovely people but I favor the non-singers.
I adore Hairo Torres. I tell my sweetheart, who is also Hispanic, that Hairo is his cousin. As a result he does watch Hairo’s performances, and when he saw Hairo in the quarter finals, he remarked, “Ay cabron!”
But that’s OK…. the singers are probably used to feeling that all the ladies are after them.
Don’t worry Donna. We won’t tell your sweetheart that you’re in love with some of the singers on America’s Got Talent if you don’t…lol
I think I put it in my post or it will be in one on Monday that I’m pulling for the Fab Five. They’re the only act that I have any emotion for anymore. Otherwise, I’m in mourning for the acts I’ve lost.
John, you misunderstood me. I don’t think you should have gone longer with Barbara, I thought she was TOO long and there wasn’t enough time for the others after that. She never gave you a brief difinitive answer, it was all elongated babbling. “Oh, I ‘m so blessed to be here, blah blah blah” You asked straight questions and she didn’t give answers. Just gushy babbly stuff. I mean, she’s sweet and all, but it reminded me of Allison on American Idol. Super talented, but don’t ask her any questions cuz she’d get nervous and come off silly.
Sorry, Donna, I must have been thinking of a different poster. Perhaps it was Kitty? Not sure and I can’t locate the thread, but one of the other ladies loved Kevin as much as I do.
I don’t think that Kevin thinks all the ladies are after him. He seems truly humble. But Drew….yeah, I could see that in the future somewhere him thinking that. But right now, he seemed worried everytime he was up there onthe results shows. The look on his face was “Oh, man, I’m out” because he was up against those great singing sisters.
P.S. What does “Ay, cabron” mean? I looked it up on google and got so many different explanations, mostly saying it meant “bast**rd” (don’t want to curse on this site or any site for that matter, but that’s what it said) but others saying it was an expression of surprise. So now I’m curious.
StevieCat,
I was being sarcastic. I knew what you meant. I still liked talking to Barbara, but Kevin’s bonfire comment was still probably my favorite from the whole interview.
Whew, you got me. That went right over my head. And yes, Kevin’s bonfire remark was nearly as good as his one about catching 75,000 chickens in one night.
Hi StevieCat:
“Ay cabron” doesn’t have an exact translation, but in this context it was an expression of surprise. My sweetie was quite amazed at how Hairo is able to twist himself in knots, and then at the end of his quarterfinal performance did the splits and fell on the ground. He was very impressed and surprised, hence his remark.
“Cabron” literally means male goat, but in Spanish, depending on which country, and in what conversational context, can either be just a vulgarity (on the bas**rd level) or a term bandied about by male friends, to an insult worthy of getting into a fight (on the f– level).
In our case, I sometimes call my sweetie “cabron” in an affectionate way, and he in turn calls me “cabrona,” also affectionately. We understand what each other means, but Spanish-speaking outsiders are often confused when they hear that.
So…. what’s the deal? The 10 finalists are going to perform Monday, and we get the winner on Tuesday?
Hi Donna. Thanks for the explanation. My mother used to say things in Italian and tell me she couldn’t really explain the meaning exactly because it loses something in the translation. Your explanation gives me an idea of what my mother was talking about. Thanks.
I just checked the prgram channel on my TV and apparently they perform for the last time on Monday but the results show isn’t until Wednesday. The Biggest Loser is premiering on Tuesday in AGT’s timeslot.
P.S. This season went fast didn’t it????!!!!
StevieCat,
Amo l’italiano!!
I think you’re right. Monday performances and Wednesday results.
It did go pretty fast. Probably because they didn’t do the vegas episodes.
Yes, they didn’t do the Vegas episodes but the felt they had to repeat the previous week’s episode before the new episode and a recap of the previous night’s episode an hour before the results show. Why did we need 3 hours of AGT when 1 hour of it was something we’d already seen? Such a waste of programming especially when practically everyone has Tivo or DVRs now, so they wouldn’t miss it anyway. Very odd this year, very odd.
They did the same repeats last year too. I’m sure it’s all part of NBC’s new strategy to get low cost shows on the air. That’s why Jay Leno will be on every day as well. Cheaper to produce and so it’s a lower bar for them to make money.
