Faryl Smith Update – from Britain’s Got Talent

One of my readers sent me the following update about Faryl Smith, winner of Britain’s Got Talent.

Faryl has been very busy this year, she has sung with Katherine Jenkins at a number of venues and on TV. She has duetted with Carreras at the Hamptont Court Palace Festival. She was the guest star at the opening gala at this year’s Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. She won first prize there at the age of ten.

She has sung in York Minster, The Royal Albert Hall. She entertained the 80,000 strong English and French supporters at Twickenham Rugby Football Ground. She sang the National anthem at the FA Cup Final in front of 92,000 football supporters. She opened the proceedings at the Classical Brits Awards Concert at the RAH. She has more concerts lined up before Christmas. She will be in a joint concert with Jonathan Ansell later this month. Then she’s off up north to sing at a charity concert in aid of muscular dystrophy sufferers in the beautiful settings of Durham Cathedral And a very big occasion in November. The National Service of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. An occasion always attended by all of the Royal Family. To be invited to sing there is a huge honour.

Through all of this she has kept going to school and has just finished her second album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It is to be released in the UK on 30 November. There is no track list yet but there is information about it on her UK website. There is also a snippet of one of the tracks on it ” Somwhere Far Away”. The album is called “Wonderland”. If you visit her website mute the video and click listen. Also there are a lot of new photographs of Faryl and others. Click the gallery tab at the top left of the page. Not the one below the picture lower down the page.

Nice to see that Faryl Smith is doing so well.

Faryl Smith Interview on Ellen Show

Check out the video of Faryl Smith’s visit to the US and the Ellen Show including a song from Faryl called “The River of Light(The Blue Danube)”Faryl Smith - Faryl - River of Light (The Blue Danube):

Man, I just love her accent. Faryl Smith was from Britain’s Got Talent for those who don’t know her. Nice to see Faryl doing so well. She definitely has a lot of talent.

UPDATE: Here’s a really nice article on Faryl Smith talking about Faryl’s deal signing and really trying to dig a little deeper into the life of Faryl. I think it’s cool that she turned down Simon. I didn’t know that was possible.

Record a Single with Faryl from Britain’s Got Talent

UPDATE: As a couple of my readers have pointed out, this contest is for the UK and Ireland only. I’m really surprised that they would limit it this much. I’m sure they have their reasons, but technology has made the world much smaller and I’m surprised they haven’t embraced it.

Faryl Smith has announced a really cool competition on her website. Looks like Faryl Smith signing with Universal has been good for her and her soon to be released album.

Here’s the details of the competition from the Faryl Smith website:

Follow in Faryl’s footsteps and be in with the chance of recording a single at Abbey Road Studios and having it officially released! This is an incredible opportunity to get your voice heard by top record company executives, to have a song recorded in a professional studio and then have it released as a digital single! Simply watch the video lessons Faryl has recorded, choose your favourite song from Ave Maria, Amazing Grace or River of Light, have a little practice then give it a go and record a version yourself.

Once you’ve recorded your attempt, read the instructions below and upload the video. The best efforts will be displayed on this site and we’ll whittle it down to the three best entries. The three finalists will win a trip to London, a tour of Universal Music, a CD goody bag and they’ll get to audition to 3 top music executives.

The eventual winner will get to record a single at Abbey Road Studios with Faryl on hand to give advice. The single will then be released digitally with unique artwork, plus you’ll also receive a pair of tickets to the Classical Brits with backstage access!

Best of luck!

You can enter the competition here.

Faryl Smith’s Debut Album Introduction

One of the great Pure America’s Got Talent readers, Michael Askew, pointed me to a great little video of Faryl Smith (of Britain’s Got Talent fame) introducing her debut album which will be released March 9th. In this video Faryl Smith talks about her musical journey. There are also scenes of her photoshoot for UCJ and of her recent Christmas concert at the Royal Albert Hall with Katherine Jenkins. The soundtrack for the video is of Faryl Smith singing some of the songs from her debut album. Check it out:

Thanks Michael. Faryl Smith seems like she’s living up to everything Simon thought she would be.

Faryl Smith From Britain’s Got Talent Update

Many of you that are fans of Britain’s Got Talent will be familiar with the name: Faryl Smith. She was one of Simon Cowell’s favorite singers on the show and for good reason. One of my readers updated me on what’s happening with Faryl Smith since Britain’s Got Talent. Check out this video where Faryl Smith signs a record deal with Katherine Jenkins for Universal Classics and Jazz:

It’s also worth visiting Faryl’s website to see some beautiful shots of her. The people at Universal did a great job with that. Also, you can pre-order Faryl Smith’s debut album on Amazon.

For those of you who missed her on Britain’s Got Talent, here’s some videos of Faryl Smith on BGT:

Faryl Smith (Britain’s Got Talent) versus Jessica Price (America’s Got Talent)

A very astute reader pointed out the fact that Faryl Smith from Britain’s Got Talent performed the same song as Jessica Price did on America’s Got Talent. They both performed Sarah McLachlan “Angel” Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing - Angel.

Take a look at the following videos to compare the 2 performances.

Faryl Smith performing “Angel” Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing - Angel on Britain’s Got Talent

Jessica Price performing “Angel” Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing - Angel on America’s Got Talent

Both beautiful girls with beautiful voices. I think that Jessica Price definitely had a much better presentation. The white and the almost floating like an angel was awesome. They have such different style of voices that I don’t think it’s worth comparing. They were both great and I’d love to see both perform. I will say that my personal preference is for Jessica Price’s style. I’d love to just spend an evening listening to Jessica Price sing. Hopefully one day I’ll get that opportunity. Anyone heard what’s happened with Faryl Smith since the show?

Britain’s Got Talent starts in early 2009. I’m planning on posting about the show. Only question is whether I should post it on this blog or on a separate one. I’m thinking I’ll post it on this one. Any thoughts?

America’s Got Talent Tour

The latest fad in reality TV is to send the various performers from the reality TV shows on a performance tour. It makes complete sense when you think about all the various dance and singing reality TV shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and Nashville Star. Even MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew is going on tour.

Even with all the reality TV shows going on tour, I think America’s Got Talent could quite possibly be one of the best reality tv shows to go on tour. It just makes sense to have an America’s Got Talent tour. Consider the variety of talent you’d see on an America’s Got Talent tour. Many of the people are probably good enough to do their very own tour one day. Together it makes an awesome combination.

The question is whether they’ll be an America’s Got Talent tour or not. I swear I read in one of the newspapers that there was going to be an America’s Got Talent tour 2008 here in the US. Only problem is I can’t remember where the article is that talked about the AGT tour. Has anyone else heard about plans for an America’s Got Talent tour?

On a side note, it was announced that Britain’s Got Talent announced the Britain’s Got Talent tour back in April. My guess is that the America’s Got Talent tour would do similar things. Just hopefully in more cities (like the one I live in).

On 17 April 2008 it was announced there was to be a 13-date live tour, visiting the UK’s major cities during the month of June, featuring the semi-finalists, the finalists and the winner from this current series, along with a few surprises. It has been confirmed that Stephen Mulhern will be hosting the tour, which started on 6 June. None of the judging panel will be present, and there will be no live voting. The tour was later extended to 22 performances, including matinee’s, after high demand for tickets. The tour stars all 10 finalists, as well as semi-finalists Tracy Lee Collins & Anya Sparks. The tour also features a duet with Faryl Smith and Andrew Johnston.
