America’s Got Talent 5: YouTube Auditions

USAToday.com has an article up giving us an idea of who to expect on Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent.

Now if you don’t know how the YouTube auditions episode is set up… People were asked to post a YouTube video of themselves showing off their talent and submitting it to the America’s Got Talent YouTube page.

From there, the producers would choose eleven (11) acts to be on the YouTube auditions show while America was asked to view the YouTube auditions and choose the act that they would like to see on the show.

Of the eleven acts chosen by the producers they include:

– Pup, a 7-year-old mutt [and Ed Heiss, his guitar-playing sidekick]
– Ohio pizzeria owner Patt Miller

However, the single act that garnered the most votes by voters via YouTube is:

[…] Jackie Evancho — a 10-year old opera singer […]

Now there is a Jackie that is a reader to the site that was mentioned in a previous post in regards to the YouTube auditions, however without a last name there is no knowing if this is the same Jackie as mentioned.

Also in store… Wednesday’s results episode will include:

[..] Judson Laipply, the motivational speaker whose 2006 Evolution of Dance video has been watched nearly 150 million times.[…]

If you do not know/remember what video that pertains to, here it is.

It sounds like this week’s auditions are going to be mildly entertaining…

America’s Got Talent 5: Editing during Las Vegas

There has been a lot of comments flying around in regards to several acts in the supposed “standby” group not really being in the “standby” group despite being televised as such.

One such group is Iron Horse. In the opening scenes they are plainly seen in Group A sitting in the lower right hand corner of the screen (two of the guys were wearing their blue “country-ish” shirts). If you look at the group carefully there are other acts that were in the “standby” show that were really in Group A.
– NU Covenant
– Cristina & Ali
– New Directions Choir
– Strange Familiar

So essentially the majority (if not all) of the Bands/Singing Duos, etc were in Group A rather than the “standby” group. As much as I wished they would not purposely rearrange people that way on television and were instead more straight up with their audience, I would have to suppose they did it this way to keep the audience on their feet in what I believe to be their version of drama.

At the same time, television (as a whole) and in particular reality television, I have found have been disrespecting their audience bit by bit with every passing year… particular when it comes to situations like these when they are trying to script a reality show and fall short because the audience could see which acts were really where and etc.

To me, if reality television producers truely trusted their audience and kept everything true instead of trying so hard to stick with a particular formula (it’s called thinking out of the box, all other industries are doing it) perhaps they will find that the audience they are trying so hard to entice to continue to watch television, will continue to do so.

It’s like any relationship… it starts with trust. 😀

America’s Got Talent 5: Los Angeles Auditions

Hello all! To make things quick, I’m going to do a quick list of all the acts that made it through to Vegas with websites to find out more about them. Then over the course of the week I will (hopefully) give each act their own post with more info, thoughts, etc.

If anyone out there have any info to the following acts please either leave a comment or contact us.

Also a quick note… my computer didn’t record the first 40 mins of the episode… so any help with the first few acts that made it to Vegas would be great… Granted I could wait til the episode shows up online. 🙂

Since there are probably some people that haven’t seen the show… Click on “Read More” for spoilers!

America’s Got Talent 2010: Laryngospasms

So what is a laryngospasm? According to Wikipedia and other websites – medical or otherwise – it is an uncontrolled reaction (aka spasm) to the vocal chords. So I suppose if you’re singing, that’s one way of looking at it.

But the other, lesser known definition of Laryngospasms (or Spasms for short), is the male singing quartet of practicing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.

The best way to describe this group is that they take popular songs and create musical, medical parodies of them. Case in point in a Christmas party many moons ago a couple of the original members were singing Breaking Up is Hard to Do by Neil Sedaka Neil Sedaka - The Very Best of Neil Sedaka - Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, and thanks to a suggestion from an audience member, created a parody called:

Waking Up is Hard to Do.

With a couple of albums and videos on YouTube. They have gigs throughout the country all while still keeping their day jobs!

So with a steady gig going on, a chance to go on America’s Got Talent seemed inevitable. As it turns out, their act was all fun and campiness, but is there a spot for them in the mainstream music scene?

No matter the answer, this has been an established group for almost two decades running and have gigs scheduled throughout the United States through 2011. Just go to the The Laryngospasms website for more information. Listen to their music, find out where they are singing at next. Or head to their YouTube channel to see music videos that they have created as well as a video about their trip to the America’s Got Talent auditions in Chicago. Finally if you’re a Facebook junkie, just join their Facebook page to show your support.

America’s Got Talent Season 5 Auditions (AGT 2010)

A notice was posted to the official AGT audition website about the America’s Got Talent Season 5 auditions being over. I meant to post this when I first saw it, but I’ve been a little bit busy lately. However, I felt it only right to post it since I’d posted so much information about America’s Got Talent auditions.

The cool part is that the official America’s Got Talent audition website also has this posted:

Auditions for Season 4 of America’s Got Talent are now over. All the acts have been notified.

The show will premiere on JUNE 23 9/8C ON NBC.

Online pre-registration for season 5 (which will air in 2010) will start June 15, 2009. Check back for details.

I’m certain this will be bad news for those who auditioned for America’s Got Talent season 4 and never heard back from the show. However, it’s great news for those interested in participating in the America’s Got Talent season 5 auditions. Yes, that’s America’s Got Talent 2010. Seems like it’s a long ways away, but it will go faster than we think.

Anyway, best of luck to those that will be on America’s Got Talent season 4 on June 23, 2009 and even more luck to those who brave the crowds to audition for America’s Got Talent 2010.
