I’ve been reading a bunch of people talking about last night’s episode of America’s Got Talent being one of the best they’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of those people. I thought the other 3 top 48 episodes were better than last night’s episode. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy last night’s episode. It was great entertainment. It just wasn’t the best (for me).
Ok, if you missed it, you can see the final Top 48 America’s Got Talent episode below:

I think, considering how Rudy Macaggi won the “smaller” talent show all the way back in season one (got $5000, I think), it’s interesting to see him come this far in the main competition.
I recognized Rudi too. I thought he was much better in the result shows in season one…I’m surprised he changed his act – not as creative and kind of boring.
I agree John that this episode wasn’t that much better than the previous ones- however, 8 of the acts had a chance to go through (and all 8 were good in their own way) so that’s why people said that. As far as entertainment values go though I wasn’t that much more entertained than I was before. I figured Taylor and Arcattack would get through, though I was surprised Arcattack didn’t get top 3 and I was pleasantly surprised the kid dancers did.
I was happy Prince Poppycock got through as well since he is a legit talent and I was worried he wouldn’t just because of the backlash about him getting through and not Carlos (the Puerto Rican opera singer). I would have rather seen Rudy go through than Murray, but I do think Murray’s trick was impressive- way better than what he did at Vegas week.
I honestly don’t see what people like about Murray. I don’t even think that was his own trick. I could have done what he did on stage. He asked for Piers jacket. Handed it to the girl. Put the cloth up. Then, at the right time he pulls it down. That’s not talent. The talent is the person who put the trick together. I’m just not buying that it was his trick and not the producers.
I did not agree with the decisions made, but then again I am NOT a judge, only a viewer, I felt very very disappointed about Carlos Aponte way back when he got cut.
Another disappointment for me was Rudy Macaggi althought everyone says they have seen him before, I don’t ever recall him being on AGT.
I suppose it is what is is and that is that, we really don’t have much say in the matter, but my heart still is breaking for Carlos Aponte, wow that is talent with a capital T and even Howie said he had been waiting for an unexpected spectactular moment and he got it with Carlos, yet did not vote him in.
Oh well, this is just my opinion.
Thanks for listening.

Murray’s trick was very similar to a magician in AGT first season – I forget his name. The magician turned himself into paper and his assistants fired him as confetti behind the judges and the magician appeared behind them and scared the dickens out of Brandy (this season it was Howie).
I think you are thinking of Nathan Burton. Honestly, I thought he should have won Season 1 (back when I hated all singers in the competition because I didn’t want to see another version of American Idol) but got the shaft because Piers made other acts cry.
Piers also made the Quick-Change artists cry so they beat out Nathan Burton in the wild-card show during 1st season. The Quick-Change act got old really quick especially since it was the same each time. The judges sabotaged the magician category this season by putting some lame acts through that have no chance of winning (like the bad magician/comedian). I wish a magician with original tricks could finally win but of course the winner will be a singer as always.
I am so annoyed at Sharon’s “fat and sweaty opera singer” remark….
Aside from the fact that none of AGT contestants are really opera singers – none of them has any chance whatsoever of getting a job in real opera, not without A LOT of additional training and even then it’s doubtful given the level of competition in opera – most REAL(!) opera singers today are quite good-looking. I bet the old hag would love to look like Anna Netrebko or Elina Garanca or Renee Fleming. As to tenors – Juan-Diego Florez, Jonas Kaufmann, Piotr Beczala, Rolando Villazon, Roberto Alagna and most others are quite nice-looking too.
She has also insulted all POPopera singers that have ever appeared on AGT. Neither Barbara Padilla – the closest to opera singer AGT had – nor Donald Braswell who was the only one who had had a legitimate opera career before the accident were “fat and sweaty”.
Quick Change in season 1 would have won that show if they had changed up the act at all. Also, let’s not forget Terry Fator in season 2, who did sing but was primarily a ventriloquist.
This season, I have to say that Fighting Gravity could break the mold and win. My only concern is if they can keep the act fresh. If they can do that, it is their competition to lose. I have Prince Poppycock at a close second, I still don’t like picking singers in the competition but this guy is great. He is the best opera singer (or “pop opera” singer, if that better represents him) that this competition has had (and yes, I know all of the previous ones, I still stand by that comment). All of the previous ones kept opera in this serious tone, but Prince Poppycock has brought out the light-hearted side of it. I love seeing that come out with each performance, and he has shown that, comedy or tragedy, he can perform well.
Hi Jason
I agree with you for most of what or wll of what you said, but has everyone forgot the best of the best CARLOS APONTE, he just blew Howie Mandel away and my thought was this kid could and should be the big winner.
Realizing that his voice is still developing as he is only 24, it sure would have fooled me, had I not seen him and just heard his voice on a CD or the radio, I felt he got short changed, especially when that Red Haired old hag got in and RONITH, what’s with that, I still don’t get both of those so-called talents.
Guess it’s a good thing I am not a jusge, but sometimes I wish I was, perhaps CARLOS did not come off as well on TV as he did in person, that one is still a huge mystery for me.
THanks for listing.

@Angelheart – they may have a wildcard or a similar show, so maybe they’ll bring Carlos back.
He was clearly the best voice on AGT if a little flat at times, but the song selection for Vegas week wasn’t a good idea. I suspect it wasn’t his choice. They may bring him back, if they don’t – he’ll be able to get more training. He isn’t completely untrained by the way, he did go to conservatory in Puerto Rico, but he needs more.
@Jason “or “pop opera” singer, if that better represents him”
Yes it is, and it applies to all AGT “opera” contestants. Popera/classical crossover. Maybe musicals in some cases. An opera singer is someone who sings in live operas in unamplified opera theaters. Not only are they able to project the sound so that it is heard in an opera theater over the orchestra (yes, there is good acoustics there, but still if you or I stand there and shout, we’ll not be heard, but opera singers are heard even when they sing softly), but the standards of pitch/technique/artistry in opera, as in all classical music is extremely high. It’s similar to the level of perfection demanded from classical instrumental musicians. Today they need to act as well, simply standing and singing is no longer acceptable. There is a video on YouTube called “operatic disasters” where a single missed or cracked high note in a 3-hour performance counts as a “disaster”, in Europe it may result in booes and whistles from the audience, there is also a video of a tenor, Roberto Alagna, being booed in La Scala (check it out and see if his singing in that performance would’ve impressed AGT judges). Artistry, the ability to express with one’s voice, face, body (no, not costume) what one sings about is extremely important and is most difficult. It’s very different and a lot more demanding than singing an aria with a microphone where the audience goes wild over anybody who sounds “operatic” and wouldn’t notice flat notes much less care about expression. You can easily find opera performances of Largo al Factotum, La donna e’ mobile, and Vesti la Giubba on YouTube and compare. Ignore the costume, just concentrate on singing and the music itself. Incidentally, check out Michael Fabiano – he is about the same age as Carlos Aponte.
Thanks kitty,
I know hw was a little flat as you say, but still very very good for his age and being so nervous, I know he chose the incorrect song to sing in Las Vegas, but I also suspect it was selected incorectly for him.
Thanks for your encouraging words about him possibly comng back as a wild card if they do it. Hopefully Howie or someone else will come to their senses like when Simon Cowell called by phone last year informing the judges they had made a grave error, and then a few acts got to perform again.
Jason,
My dad practically raised me on “little theatre” music, opera and classical music. He in particular loved Mario Lanza’s verson of La donna è mobile (was his favourite) and quickly became mine, it brings me back to the good old days when talent was true talent.
Thanks for the heads up on YouTube called “operatic disasters” I will be checking out YouTube with the section called “operatic disasters” and as well YouTube and will check out
Largo al Factotum, La donna e’ mobile, and Vesti la Giubba on YouTube and compare.
Then I will check out also as you suggested for comparison purposes Michael Fabiano – he is about the same age as Carlos Aponte.
I will go there right now, if not sooner, this really intrigues me, as I adore, Opera, Operettas and classical music.
Thanks for the information.
Actually, it looks like there will be a wild card. I just looked ahead in the schedule, and here is the description for the episode on 8/17:
“The judges give 12 of their favorite acts another chance to compete.”
I don’t have a link since it’s on my DVR.
Also, I don’t doubt there are better singers out there, I just like Prince Poppycock a lot.
THANKS SO MUCH
Good catch Jason. I’d sent an email to the show to see how the episodes were going to lay out over the next couple weeks and I’d never gotten a response.
Definitely looks like the wild card show will bring back 12 of the judges favorite acts. I must admit though that I’ll be really surprised if they go all the way back to the Las Vegas acts. I’m guessing it will be from the top 48. However, I guess it’s possible that they’ll go all the way back to Vegas.
It will be fun to see.
I too think there will be a wild card show because in the first episode of the top 48 the description was something like “12 acts compete for a spot in the top 24″. I was wondering how they would get 24 with four acts going through each night, but it clearly seems that there will be four going through Wed. (creating a total of 20) and four next week. I figure the acts that got top five but didn’t get through will each get another chance (the ballroom kids, RNG, etc.)
Melissa,
Yep, definitely a wild card show. Hard to say who they’ll bring. Probably some surprises and some people left out. Makes for better television.
Whatever they do, I just hope that CARLOS is in the mix. He deserves to be in the TOP.
Thanks for listening
I read on one of the posts that you can e-mail the show or better still, the judges, like Howie or Sharon. Can somebody tell me if this is possible.
I would love to e-mail Howie, I already tweeted him many different times, but would love to send him an e-mail
Thanks
Angelheart96969,
I’ve never seen a place like that to e-mail. Twitter seems like the best way to communicate with Howie.
Hi again John,
Thanks, guess I will TWEET Howie to death. LOL
Have a great evening and enjoy the WILD CARD or SURPRISE return talent evening tonight.
Actually, tonight is the YouTube Auditions: http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/2010/08/09/americas-got-talent-5-youtube-auditions/
Should be interesting!
