You bet, John.... I've wanted to write more as the audition process went forward... and everyone was waiting for callbacks...but AGT essentially forbids
anyone to talk about their experience.. during the time.. no media.. no stories..no information other than "I auditioned for AGT"... and not even supposed to publicize if one actually got on the show... according to all the information...and waivers I signed... So I did not want to jeopardize my chances.. or get in "LEGAL TROUBLE" directly with AGT.. by mentioning anything about the process while acts were being chosen. I was disappointed simply because I did make it through all the local processes... and signed all those waivers. etc. so thought I had a good chance of at least getting back on the show.. but was not to be.. Next time.. if I audition again.. I'll take a complete different approach.. and I won't perform original music. I think one would have a better chance.. just make a song YOUR OWN... and show your own diversity...
and ability to be creative, and yet, professional sounding.. Again.. good luck to all who auditioned.. and those who actually got on the show. Keep up your good work, John... You have a good way of encouraging entertainers who write in.

Well guys and gals.. looks like 2010 season is set..
I auditioned in Dallas.. (made it through all three rounds with judges..interviews...was told not to change my hair color..no major change in looks.. lots of different interviews..and was taped 3-4 times doing different things in audience..plus performing for two sets of judges..then the finalinterview.etc.) was told NOT to discuss anything that went on..but now that I've not gotten chosen to be on the show... it's probably okay to give up some information. I too sang an original song.. and judges loved it.. but there is also the situation with obtaining rights..etc. I am a ASCAP writer and pubisher.. and the TWO songs I sang were originals..but are copywrighted and registered with ASCAP...so it would have taken a little extra effort on their part to license...or get permission to use.. so this is another disadvantage of performing one's own music.. my way of thinking. It was a great experience.. I was hoping to be one of their "sassy senior" acts.. but it didn't happen... They did give me a lot of hope... going through all three auditions and interviews..signing all kinds of waivers.. and photos at the end of the last interview with head producer..etc. ?? Oh well...better luck next time.
Who knows....maybe some of us who were taped might get on a "cameo" shot in their beginning "cities" audition shows... That's the most I can hope for now... and maybe some of you others who auditioned will get on the show somehow in this manner.. strictly from video shot day of audition.
.......I went to the first live taping of the show in Dallas... It was interesting.. but let's face it boys and girls...ladies and gentlemen....it's SHOW BUSINESS...
and producers of the show are going to choose acts...good or bad... that will get people talking..good or bad... and bring in viewers from week to week...and increase ratings!! Remember that second word after Show....... and it's most
definitely BUSINESS!! But don't give up on your own hopes and dreams for your talent.. Keep working at it.. believing in yourself... in your own talent... continue to improve your skills, whatever they are... whatever your talent.. I RESUMED my music career at 51... after my three daughters were grown and gone... and I've had a very successful music career ...I'm now 70...and still entertain every weekend.. still writing songs.. entertaining across the US... There's always DEMAND for good musicians and entertainers.. but you MUST CONTINUE TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF...and your own talent.. Best to all of you... (Oh, did I mention I play on a senior women's basketball team also?? gold medalist. so I'm very active.. ) I also am a motivational speaker and get to use my sports experience...and MUSIC as part of my speaking performance.... So find a way to use your talent.... invent it yourself.. don't wait for someone else to find you... Go out... perform every time..every where you can... just keep at it.. believe in yourself! I still believe in me and my talent at 70! and I have no intentions of slowing down!! No rocking chair for me!!! best to all of you... On Facebook: Kay Seamayer - check out several links.. feel free to contact me... Good luck to all!!! - here's a youtube video - patriotic song I wrote and perform across us..

Thanks John..for all your efforts to keep us all informed. Good luck to those who made it to the 2010 show!!!

Nancy,
I agree, but the bar required to have a great original is much higher, and probably should be. Personally I love someone like Cas Haley who takes whatever he's doing and even if there was an original you'd never know since he totally makes it his own. Lots of options out there.

I would agree when it comes to the majority of originals created by the majority of amatuers because most of them are actually pretty bad. But if a song just smacks you in the face because it's different and catchy and/or funny then the producers should give it a chance - in my opinion. We don't give the audience enough credit to decipher and/or digest original work. All works were original at some point in time. I get tires of being bombarded with the same stuff over and over again on the radio. To hear something fresh -IF it's good - is a great treat for me.

Nancy,
AGT definitely has a bias for covers instead of original music. Kind of makes sense since the bond people already have with covers makes the show more entertaining.

MJM ... Wow. Unbelievable. Maybe you'll get called for Chicago??? My friend has not been called back - and her video submission is GREAT. Funny and entertaining original song. But I've known her for years and I might be seeing things subjectively. However she has a local following here that's huge and her original songs are so clever. We all think AGT would be crazy if they don't call her back. She already has a local fan club that would for sure watch the show. And she's an attorney too (ummm hope she doesn't mind me saying that!) so they'd get a lot of interested attorneys who would watch just to see what happened to one of their own. Haha. I'm trying to put an obvious plug in for a great friend...And of course they can't really get to know people in a two minute video but she is a hilarious person in general.
