America’s Got Talent 2010 LA Auditions
The America’s Got Talent 2010 LA auditions just completed and a number of people have asked for a thread to talk about the AGT 2010 LA Auditions. As always on this site(Disclaimer: This is just a FAN site), your wish is my command (or at least something like that). So, use this thread to comment on your experience at the LA auditions. Post any pictures you might have taken before or after the show. Don’t disclose anything that you agreed not to say. Just share your experience and things that might help other people who auditioned in LA or will be auditioning for AGT 2010 in another city.
If you’re waiting for call backs, then you should keep an eye on the official AGT LA auditions page. The producers have said that they’ll update the city page with information about when they are done with auditions for that city. Also, they’ve posted the following message (which turns out is the most popular question we get on this site):
Only those acts that are moving on in the competition will be notified. Auditions are still being evalulated, no decisions have been made yet. All decisions will be made by April 2010
Yes, that means that if you don’t make it, you won’t hear anything. I also like that they told you April 2010 you can stop waiting.
Next up, America’s Got Talent 2010 heads to Dallas, TX on January 30-31. We’ll start a new thread for Dallas people to comment about the AGT 2010 Dallas auditions.

Same thing happened! We were called the week before to ask us our availability, and we would get a call the following week…no call! Its so hard trying to deal with this especially when the contestants are kids, how do you explain the ‘reality tv’ process to them? They feel bad and think they’ve failed, it’s different when your an adult, hopefully by then you’ve had ‘real life’ experiences to make you stronger, but when the producers tell kids that they’re great and are going to have an ‘amazing experience’ they believe it. The kids are used to auditioning, and being told on the spot a ‘yes or no’ answer in theater & stage, tv is just a different animal I guess!
Ishkamarie – Thank you for your kind words and support – it’s not just being told that your not right for the part, which they totally accept – it’s being lied to at a young age, when you are being taught it’s wrong to lie, especially by an adult and at this level. Maybe they shouldn’t have young people try out for the show, or lie to them to say they are going on when they’re not, unless they are going to follow thru with what they say. You know “it’s better to say nothing than anything at all…”
annie, as you can see my comments were erased by john. i just want you and others to know that no matter how bad agt treated you that you should not give up your dream. there is nothing worse then regret and if you and your children don’t keep trying you will never know what could have been. you’ll be sorry later. good luck. ishkamarie@aol.com
Yes, I did delete her comment since she said I worked for AGT which is just patently NOT true. I don’t have any affiliation with them at all. I just run this fan site.
I agree with you Ishkamarie. It’s a good thing to pursue your dreams. You never know what will happen to make your dreams come true.
Hey Annie
Well, I am sorry it happened to you also. There are still two cities left though. Maybe we will get called to one of them ? Who knows, but I am not counting on it and just going on as if I am not getting called.
@ISHKAMARI – I am curious why you were asking about opera singers. Are you one?
If you aren’t, surely there are better places than AGT to find great opera singers. Like, I don’t know, the Met… or at least Met auditions.
OOps, I shouldn’t type from work, this came out not very nice, not as I planned. Ishkamarie – if you are an opera singer, I wish you the best; I think opera singers on AGT do help bring opera to more people. I do understand how difficult it is to make it.
It’s just that if you are not, I was a bit curious why you’d be interested in opera singers who audition for AGT – so many people don’t realize how much talent there is outside these shows.
Hey guys, I’m one of the one’s that didn’t go to an audition. I mailed in my application and I too had no insight on whats going on and how this works. By hearing and reading all your comments, which I found very interesting, I have been able to get the information I needed. For all of you who went to an open audition, and had a great time, I can only imagine how that day was for you. Lots of fun. And for you guys that didn’t have such a great time, keep your head up, keep practicing, and don’t let anyone steal your dream. I made a webpage of songs that I recorded. I’m hoping that they can hear through the rawness, If I have what it takes, even at the rip old age of 55. When you age, only your body grows older but not your thoughts and emotions. I’ve always had a dream to be a singer. I’ve lived the bad side of life, now maybe I can know how it feels to live the good side. Keep up with your dreams guys, because in hollywood, there’s always room for one more. Lots of money too, go out and get it, doing what you love most. Please check out my page and tell me what you think. It’s ladydyxea’s page. You can google it. Peace out. 🙂
To sing on AGT, can be a dream for anyone. To make it in front of the world, for all to see you doing what you love most, is probably worth all that you struggled to get there. You can say to the world, Look at me now. hehe That would be a huge slap in the face for all those that thought you were a loser. What now!!!!! lol
PS John I think your right when you say, go on with your life and stop thinking about it. I know that if they, the producer, liked you, they will find a way to contact you. I say, being anxiously waiting just shows your doubt. You went, planned the seed, now let it grow. If the seed is good, it will grow, but if you keep watering it, and messing with it, it can die. So while you wait, be happy, hopeful, don’t get stuck, move on, life is short/long, which every way you want to live it. Thank you.
Ladydyxea,
It sounds so callous when you repeat what I said. I don’t want to sound insensitive. I know what it’s like to wait and hope for something. Plus, the great feeling when you know the wait is over (good or bad).
But the point about moving on is more about not letting a TV show that is “produced” to define you and your definition of talent. However, this is true in the entire entertainment business. If you’re having a good time, keep it up. If you’re not, find a way to enjoy what you love, but don’t dwell on it and drive yourself crazy.
< end my thoughts> 🙂
This was my first experience with Hollywood and I am very, very dissappointed with the fact that they are not at all honest with you. We were called twice in regards to our video submission. The first time to say we were on the producers reel, the second saying we were chosen and asking our availability for Orlando ! Why didnt they just tell us the truth, being “When you are chosen from a video audition, you are not guaranteed an audition in front of the judges. We just keep you on the list and wait and see.” Then, we would not have made fools of ourselves by celebrating and getting all of our friends and family excited for nothing. We look like fools now who were misleading everyone, when we in fact were misled.
the whole entertainment business is not like AGT.. If they were they would loose the confidence of the people they are trying to find work for and clients would stop using them. once an agency has shown them selves not to be trustworthy clients stop going to them and confidence is lost. there is a lot of let downs but most, not all agencies are honest. agt is not an honest agency but one that uses people for personal gain…….
Joy i agree with what you are saying about A.G.T. because they lied to me last year in Miami,FL. what happened was in the tryouts i sang “i believe i can fly” by R. KELLY and they told me that R. KELLY would not allow anyone to sing any of his songs in a talent competition and the worst thing about it is i sang the song about as good as or maybe even better than R. KELLY did which was very shocking to me because i had never heard of anything like that before and they told me that i had to sing a song in a book and that did not work out good. i did not make it because it hard to learn how to sing a song that you have never sang before and i had to learn it in one hour. on April 20,2010 a young guy in the American Idol competition sang “i believe i can fly”. so they lied just to control me and everybody else that enters this thing or what ever it is.
the name of that song is
‘you raised me up” by Josh Groban. i could not remember how the song sounded thats why it did not work out but now i can sing it with no problem. A.G.T. will do what they want until the law stops them.
terry,
That’s a pretty broad accusation to say that they lied to you. Since I do 3 different websites that list the music from TV shows I’ve learned a lot about the process for getting music approved. It is VERY likely that AGT couldn’t get R. Kelly music approved. Artists are really fickle about what they will and won’t allow with their music. Plus, for the right dollar amount artists can change their mind.
A simple example is that Michael Jackson wouldn’t let his music be used on So You Think You Can Dance, but a few months later they used it on American Idol. American Idol is a bigger brand name, with more $$ and so they have a lot more pull in this regard. I can’t imagine any other TV show getting the rights to all that Elvis music like Idol did this year either. However, when you’re the number 1 (or now 2?) reality tv show you have more options.
It is a shame though when you just have to select from a book and try to perform that. Of course you won’t be as good and if you are, then that’s quite the talent.
AGT CAN SAY ANYTHING AN NO ONE CAN CHECK OUT THEIR RESPONSE TO FIND OUT IF THEIR BEING TRUTHFUL. THEIR RATINGS HAVE NOT BEEN SO GOOD. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT THEY WERE RATED NUMBER 1 0R 2. ? JOHN, WHAT IS YOUR CONNECTION TO THEM? I AM UNFAMILIAR TO THIS WEBSITE BUT IT APPEARS YOU HAVE A CONNECTION. JOY
joy,
Actually, my reference to number 1 or 2 was to American Idol and not AGT. Right now American Idol and Dancing with the Stars are neck and neck as far as ratings. Although, if my memory serves me correct I think that AGT was the number one rated summer show. I could be wrong though. I’d have to go look it up somewhere. Granted, it’s a summer show where there’s less competition.
I actually don’t have any connection with the show. I have the email of a PR person for the show and not much more. This is a completely independent site from the show. I have no relationship implied or otherwise with NBC, America’s Got Talent, Fremantle media, etc etc etc. Just a fan of the show.
if this is a fan site then why so many negative comments? the most of the comments are either because the people are confused or upset because of the lies. the same man produced both AMERICAN IDOL AND AMERICA’S GOT TALENT SIMON COWELL. the bad thing about it is we can’t do anything about it because in order to enter the so called competition we signed away our legal rights to sue them and why because they are no good liers !!!
Auditions are a hard thing. Plus, comments usually come from those who aren’t happy. Fans of a show don’t always have to say everything’s great. On occasion I’ve had to delete comments that went too far and were critical of people. However, outside of a few audition threads like this one, people really enjoy the show for what it is: entertainment. Certainly that doesn’t make the heartache any less for those that didn’t make it, were told bad information, etc.
Once the show starts most of the people that visit site will be people who are just fans of specific people on the show. The TV show is what it is, but there’s still real people that make it on the show and get a chance to have a really cool experience and have their talent be seen by millions.
JOHN, ARE YOU ABLE TO PROVIDE THE P.R. PERSON WITH THE FANS COMPLAINTS, CONCERNS, OR CONFUSION THAT THIS FAN SITE BRINGS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE PRODUCER. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY WOULD ANSWER THE CONTESTANTS CONCERNS. ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO WERE CALLED TO BE IN AGT THE NEVER CALLED BACK…. JOY
.
TERRY, I AGREE WITH YOU. WHERE CAN I FIND ONE OF THOSE CONTRACTS YOU SIGNED? JOY
JOY,it is part of the original paperwork that everybody had to sign to even go through the tryouts in those cities they went to. i went too Atlanta,Ga. if you don’t sign it you don’t tryout they send you home and thats just the first step. i knew they were not going to call me because their was not even a camera in the room during the tryouts like their was in Atlanta and Miami last year so they lied to us when they said they would call us if we were moving on to the next round because they didn’t tape us. A.G.T. might not lie about everything but they do tell a lot of lies. they don’t have to worry about me any more because it is a waist my time and money.
Joy,
The PR people just send me updates about the show and lists of music. Although, if you check some of the previous comments you’ll see that the AGT producers read and occasionally respond in the comments. So, I’m guessing they’ve read all the comments before. Plus, these same type of comments are posted on the official AGT site: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/
P.S. When you type your comment in all CAPS that’s usually considered yelling on a website and can annoy a lot of people.
sorry! i type in the dark. at night. can’t see my mistakes when i type in the dark.
No problem joy. Just wanted to let you know so you didn’t annoy people unnecessarily.
@John, @Terry: “It is VERY likely that AGT couldn’t get R. Kelly music approved.”
This is quite possible, but we’ve also learned from many posts in the past that often the music contestants aren’t allowed to sing has no copyright protection. E.g. we were told that Braswell was not allowed to sing opera arias – and for opera arias no such protection exists; maybe those of contemporary composers but not those long dead: not only is this music performed all over the world, but people make arrangements from it.
We really don’t know much about music selection process, you know the approval process, but if the disaprove, you don’t know the reason. Yes, not getting permission could be one of this reasons, but there may be others. e.g. they don’t think the audience will like it or someone else singing it or (whatever).
Off topic: I found this article, I think it might be interesting to you: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2880726/do_the_opera_singers_on_the_got_talent.html?cat=33
As Nigel on SYTYCD recently said, it is a “casting” that they’re doing. The same could be applied to AGT. It’s a “casting” and not a talent show. I thought that was an interesting change of perspective.
With that said, Donald wouldn’t have likely been “cast” on the show as an opera singer since they already had Neal E. Boyd (among many others if I remember right). So, they offered him the opportunity to use his versatility and be “cast” as a different type of singer.
I’m not saying this is right or wrong, but just another perspective on what happened.
@John – good point. It is indeed “casting”. Interestingly, when I saw that in some countries, the first few shows are being translated as “casting”. I thought this was a translation mistake, but after I read your note I see the point. It’s indeed casting. They should call it as such.
Still I am not 100% convinced the song selection is governed entirely by copyright issue. Was for example “Nessun Dorma” really Neal’s choice – having training he should’ve known the aria is wrong for his voice and beyond his capabilities. He could’ve done much better with something like “Una furtiva lacrima” – also a beautiful aria but for a lyric voice, closer to the repertory he’d be singing in opera were he good enough for it. There are zillion of other famous arias to choose from – no less popular, no less of a “showcase”, but he choose this one. Not to mention that 99% of “opera singers” on these shows choose from repertory of about 3 arias, and invariably Puccini. Why? Also, in all cases only one of the selections performed on the show is an aria, and a couple of songs (Ave Maria and one crossover or two crossover songs). In fact, it seems most singers “choose” to repeat their first audition piece at finals – too much of a coincidence to be really a choice.
There are other things – all hearsay of course. A little girl auditioning the next year after Bianca won and with the same song and criticized severely for it. Her father later said that she was told to sing this same song by the producers. OK, this could be part of “casting” – they wanted to show “a Bianca wannabe” at the expense of traumatizing a 9 or 10 years old – they like hurting little children for the audience amusement. The girl was actually fairly talented based on her youtube videos, and she didn’t deserve to be setup like this.
There always are pitch problems from the majority of singers – is it because they are all tone deaf (unlikely) or because they don’t have time to learn it. Then the accusation of how the song choice was bad that happens way too many times.
Now, much of this could be explained by your “casting” comment; also by copyright. But I think sometimes “casting” goes too far. Most people I’d imagine would’ve liked to see things being a little less staged and a bit more spontaneous.
I agree they should call it casting. Although, sadly I think that still won’t avoid people’s feelings getting hurt.
I think Neal’s (or the producer’s) choice of “Nessun Dorma” was spot on. He won. Hard to argue with that;-) Remember it’s also a popularity contest more than a talent contest.
I hate when they say “bad song choice” since often it wasn’t their choice. Although, you could make the argument that they should know it’s a bad choice and fight to get a better choice. However, that’s little consolation since the real choice is probably sing something that’s a bad song choice or not be on the show at all. So, yes that comment is a mixed bag for me.
“they like hurting little children for the audience amusement. ”
That’s a little far. I don’t think they like hurting children. I think it’s fair to say that they “sometimes hurt children for the audience amusement.” I’ve often asked myself what the parents of some of these kids are thinking bringing them on the show.
You have a point about Neal – he did win – because the audience didn’t have anything to compare him to. But if there had been just a bit more knowledge in the voting public, it could’ve easily gone differently. For some people producer’s choice works, for others – it doesn’t.
I don’t think they deliberately hurt kids, but they often do it unnecessarily. Telling a 10 year old how she is so presumptious for singing same song as Bianca did (even though producers asked her to) but how she doesn’t have Bianca’s talent or charm is unnecessarily cruel, and it is done for our entertainment. Telling kids they are wonderful, inviting them to Vegas, then sending him back without even a second audition is also unnecessarily cruel. Why not just say “thank you very much, but you aren’t what we want” or “yes, you are great, which is why we are inviting you to Vegas, but we invite a lot of people and we may not be able to listen to all of them in Vegas”. Something like this.
I do agree with you about parents. If a child is talented, why not develop this talent at home and wait until the child is older. If not – surely the parents have to understand it. Let the child take lessons, see other kids with similar talent and judge realistically how your child compares.
I should clarify that I’m ok with parents bringing kids on the show. No doubt Bianca loved being on the show. It’s the parents who push their kid on the show or allow their still undeveloped kid on the show that bothers me.
If you have a kid who has a talent and the kid tells you they want to audition, that’s a different story. I still think parents should make very clear with the child the reality of what they can expect on the show. If after explaining those things your kid still wants to go on the show, great. Just make sure the kids want to go and they know what they’re in for, and I’m cool with it.
has anyone been following bgt. interesting!!! i wonder if their rules are the same.
joy,
I was just looking into it last night. I followed it all last season and posted the videos of them on this site. I’ll see what I can do to do that again this season. We’re only 2 weeks in, so hopefully we’ll find them.
Last year it was really interesting to watch and compare. A bit different if nothing else because of the size of Britain.
Yes, I think you are right about kids – in some cases and if the child really wants it and is mature, it’s fine. But they should a) have real talent b) want it and be mature enough to really understand what they want c) be mature enough to clearly understand how to interpret judges comments good or bad. d) if it’s singing, parents need to make sure that depending on type of a career the child wants, the child should be careful (choose right songs, not to strain, etc.) not to damage the voice forever. But I also think the judges should think before they speak – certain things are just cruel for no reason; telling the kid he is “you’ll win the whole thing” and then not even listen to them in Vegas is also unnecessarily cruel. Why not just tone both positive and negative comments down?
DID ANYONE SEE SUBOS COUSIN AUDITION FOR BGT?
I wish I had known about this thread after “auditioning” last year. I auditioned in Chicago, and after reading the thread, must have done fairly well.
John, this has been a great lesson in perspective. Not only do I plan to attend this years “casting call” in Chicago (November 6 – 7), but my friend as well. It will be a case of entering with eyes wide open. If either of us gets a call back (or in my case last year, invited into the room post “audition”), then we will count ourselves fortunate to spend another weekend having fun.
Thanks to your comments, as well as your followers here, we can enter this “casting” with better expectations.
@Honeykins
Glad to hear you’ve found this helpful. Hopefully when you and your friend audition, you’ll come back and share your experiences with us as well.
