Where’s Eli Mattson After America’s Got Talent?

I’ve been able to follow a lot of the past talent of America’s Got Talent. Neal E. Boyd is releasing a single and touring with Paul Potts (Britain’s Got Talent). Queen Emily is in Las Vegas doing Menopause the musical. Donald Braswell has been doing shows, releasing records and even did an appearance on PBS. A little bit surprising to me is that I haven’t heard anything about what’s happened to Eli Mattson. His performance of Walking in Memphis is one of my favorites ever on America’s Got Talent. I found this video from November 25, 2008 of him performing “Walking in Memphis” at the Meyer Theatre:

Does anyone else know what’s going on with Eli Mattson? I’d love to know if he’s releasing an album, if he has any concerts. What he’s doing with his talent.

Also, I think fans of Eli Mattson and Neal E. Boyd will also really enjoy this video of Eli and Neal performing “Candle in the Wind” on July 4, 2008. I have to admit, I think that Eli Mattson actually outperforms Neal on this one. Maybe it was just the song choice. However, I loved the whole thing and it was nice to see them together.

Subject: RE: Eli Mattson Concert Friday July 3rd, 2009 at The Harraseeket Inn, Freeport, Maine
      I found out through myspace.
And I have been telling EVERYONE!!!!!!!
It is not hard at all to support Eli, God made him VERY SPECIAL everyone knows that.
He has the gift of music that speaks directly to a persons heart. You cannot describe that when it happens, but you know that it has.
This is how the Harrasseeket Inn describes him in their web site (http://www.harraseeketinn.com/site/eli.shtml)
Eli Mattson, runner up on America’s Got Talent 2008, makes his East Coast debut in Freeport, Maine at the Harrasseeket Inn on July 3rd! Since stirring TV audiences internationally as “The Piano Man” on America’s Got Talent, Eli has performed extensively in the past year to the crowds of sold-out West Coast and Midwest venues.

Though he didn’t start taking lessons until age five, Mattson has been making music on the piano since he was two, started composing at age 11 and completed his first piano piece –written for his mom– at age 12, and performed it in a school concert. Lyrics and vocals didn’t appear on the scene until he found his voice at age 17. Since then, Mattson has been performing solo and with bands across the country.

Currently writing new songs and preparing to record a new CD, Mattson is traveling across the country as an independent performer, playing for the fans who made him a second place winner, and saying thank you! Mattson’s soulful baritone voice and fabulous piano playing connect intimately with his audiences as he sings his original music and well-known favorites interpreted with his own style.

Mattson’s ability to connect with an audience, and to bring the music and the meaning of the lyrics straight to the listeners’ hearts, is truly a gift. This outstanding singer/songwriter and exquisite piano player will be performing solo for Freeport audiences in an intimate setting with just 350 seats, an experience not to be forgotten.

WOW, Terrylisa!! Thanks for the info. That was terrific. What I’d like to know is when is he coming to New York!!!???!!!! I hope he doesn’t fade into obscurity. His manager needed to take the ball and run with it and in my opinion, he was booked into far too many local shows in Wisconsin when his management team should have been getting him out there in huge venues or at least huge cities. I think he is an extraordinary talent and I’m grateful for the info you posted on this website. Come on Eli!!! New York wants to see you too!!! :0)

    8. # John commented on July 6th, 2009:

Thanks Terrylisa. That performance is listed in this update post I did for Eli: http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/2009/06/30/eli-mattson-update/

      StevieCat,
I agree that he probably should be farther than he is now. Good management is really important in the incredibly competitive singing world.

    9. # Terrylisa L. Barrows commented on July 7th, 2009:

StevieCat who commented on July 6th, 2009 and John who commented on July 6th, 2009, I believe that if you believed that God is who he says he is, then you would KNOW that prayer is a very POWERFUL avenue to bless and impact people in a phenomenal way through the divine will and ultimate blessings of THE Almighty. And if you know that, you would also know that He functions outside the scope of time. And if you know that, you would also know that the timing of His divine will and phenomenal blessings ALWAYS keep perfect time.
He really does have EVERYTHING under control, and NEVER makes mistakes. If you would like to impact people and this world like you never have, start with prayer. One of the incredible things I have learned from God is that if everybody on the earth prayed all at the same time, He would hear each and every one of our prayers simultaneously. Just because God may not bring everyone up to speed with what He is doing does not mean that nothing is happening. The other thing I have learned from God is that if you don’t wait for Him and His will, you forcing something to happen on your own power will NEVER work out like it was meant to. If you do not wait for God to bless an issue or a situation, you will never recognize that in waiting for God, is the ONLY way to know that you are truly blessed by Him. You will never be sorry for trusting in God.

May God’s Wisdom, Love, Guidance, and Power, continue to shower Divine Blessings on Us All, according to the riches and Glory In Christ Jesus. Amen.

In God Alone Do I Trust.

      Psalm 125:1
Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

    10. # John commented on July 7th, 2009:

      TerryLisa,
It might also mean it’s God’s will for Eli to never be any more successful or famous than he is now. I’m fine with that. However, I think we do have some choice in this life.

    11. # Terrylisa L. Barrows commented on July 8th, 2009:

John who commented on July 7th, 2009.
I am not one to presume to know exactly what
Gods will is for anybody’s life. Who can REALLY know the mind and will of God? Unless He lets them know???
I do agree that we do have choices in this life. Many choose to trust themselves or others. Very few choose to trust God alone. If it were me, and I needed to make a choice between trusting in my own knowledge, or the knowledge of others, or the un-ending all knowing knowledge of the maker and ruler of the known universe, I know what I would choose. Everyone’s story is still being written. I still prefer to wait on God, knowing that His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. I do acknowledge that Eli is certainly and magnanimously blessed with the gift of music that touches and speaks directly to a person’s heart. And I know that God does things because it pleases Him. Sometimes God does reveal what His will is and sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes he reveals it as it happens. How God intends for Eli to use this incredible gift is between him and God. We can also pray for Gods will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

      Psalm 9:10
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Eli Mattson is currently fighting the battle of severe alcoholism and prescription drug addiction. He’s at home in Wisconsin trying to get sober and progress in his music career. His ego certainly precedes him and may just keep him from any further fame.

    25. # StevieCat commented on October 5th, 2009:

Oh, Sarah, say it isn’t so. no no no no no. Don’t tell me this!!! I’m sooo very upset to learn this. How do you know? Where did you read this?

P.S. I don’t quite understand your comment about his ego preceding him. What do you mean? That he’s egotistical or not enough ego? He always seemed so humble. This is a total shock to me. Thanks for the info, but I’d sure like to know the source of it. Thanks again for letting us know. I’m broken hearted for his troubles.

    26. # John commented on October 5th, 2009:

      Brenda,
Thanks for the information. Singing at tonight’s NFL game is huge. I’ll be watching, but they’re not likely to show it on TV.

      Sarah,
This is sad to hear if it’s true. I’d like to hear your sources as well.

    27. # Sarah commented on October 6th, 2009:

I know from personal experience with him. It’s all true. Ask Gillie…that’s all I’m gonna say…

Waaay tooooo much EGO StevieCat! Again, personal experience with him…

    29. # Sarah commented on October 6th, 2009:

      It’s all true…experienced it personally…that’ all I’m gonna say…

    30. # StevieCat commented on October 6th, 2009:

I think I could have lived my entire life without having known this. I’m sort of sorry you posted it at one of his fan sites.

    31. # Sarah commented on October 6th, 2009:

My apologies StevieCat. Just thought the world should know Eli isn’t as ‘humble’ as everyone thinks. He’s a person just like everyone else with some serious issues. The fame got to him. It’s really unfortunate. I have a feeling, he may get worse if he doesn’t take a step back and put thing into perspective…sorry. It is really sad but true…

    32. # StevieCat commented on October 6th, 2009:

I think what it comes down to is that although you feel the world should know, that doesn’t necessarily mean it should. Everyone deserves some privacy in their lives, especially something as serious of this, and if he pulls himself together, what you’ve done here at his website could cause him irreparable harm professionally once he is better. It wasn’t your call to make and by coming to one of his fan webpages and the way you worded it, it seemed like you had other motives & hidden agendas in addition to just trying to save him from himself. It sounded very vindictive. As you said “Personal experience with him”. That speaks volumes. I think you should be ashamed of yourself for spreading this, especially if it is true. Perhaps when you fall hard on your luck, someone you know personally will be good enough to tell the world, I’m sure they’ll just be wanting to help.

    33. # John commented on October 6th, 2009:

      StevieCat,
It’s certainly Sarah’s right to share this information as long as it’s true. Eli Mattson is a public figure and she’s welcome to share it if that’s what she wants to do. If it’s not true, then she could get in trouble for slander, but that’s a different story.

To me Eli sounds like most people who find fame. They hit a wall and get in real trouble. This story isn’t unique. Luckily, I’m not asking him to raise my kids, just to sing me a song or two.

    34. # StevieCat commented on October 6th, 2009:

I still question her motives. Being an entertainer doesn’t entitle the world to know what color your underwear is or your health problems either. In my opinion, it was none of our business. He didn’t assault anyone, he didn’t cancel a concert I had tickets to, he didn’t molest a child….he’s battling an addiction and this was a mean thing to put out there. I will never change my opinion on that. It’s just not a decent thing to do.

    35. # John commented on October 6th, 2009:

I never said it was a decent thing. Just that its her right to say it if it’s true. Doesn’t make it a good thing even if she can legally do it.

    36. # StevieCat commented on October 6th, 2009:

      Agreed. Very well put, John.

    37. # Platinum Artist Music Group commented on October 6th, 2009:

      Stevie Cat;

I just wanted to let you know that there is a show at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Central New York state that has a show called TOP TALENT USA that features past stars of America’s Got Talent and Vegas Spectaculars. Anyway, Eli will be performing in this show during the month of November. The show is every Friday at 8pm. Call The box office for more info (315)361-SHOW

    42. # StevieCat commented on November 6th, 2009:

      Dear Mr. Lucky,

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!

As it turns out, this place is 194 miles (3 hours I would think) from the town on Long Island where I live HOWEVER….I called them and Eli is scheduled to come back there on November 26th, so I’m going to shoot for that date IF we can afford to stay over at the hotel. I don’t think we could do a 6 hour round trip for it.

How did you ever find this out?????

    43. # StevieCat commented on November 6th, 2009:

Wait a minute….I just realized that November 26th is Thanksgiving Day. Bummer.

    44. # John commented on November 6th, 2009:

Dang, it would have been great for you to have been able to see him perform. Sounds like an interesting show.

    45. # StevieCat commented on November 7th, 2009:

Oh, man, I was sooooo there!! I’m hoping the venue made a mistake. When I called them to ask about what other dates he’d be there besides last night, she said she wasn’t sure if he was coming back. Then she asked someone else who said she is pretty sure he’s coming back on Nov. 26th, but I should call that week to make sure because sometimes the acts book and then cancel. So I’m hoping she got the date wrong. If it’s November 27th, we’re going to go and make a mini weekend of it. I’ll let you know if I go. I’ll blog about the show.

    46. # Mr. Lucky commented on November 8th, 2009:

      Stevie;

The reason I know that eli is coming there, is cause I work there…. and I can tell you right now, that the show is not on Thursday November 26…. it is on Friday November 27th. I am not 100% sure if Eli will be there at the 27th show, as I am not in my office at the moment, but when I do go in to work on Tuesday I will verify Eli’s schedule and post it for you.

    47. # StevieCat commented on November 8th, 2009:

      Stevie;

Hold off on the mushy love… lol. I just looked and so far, Eli is scheduled to perform at the show on Saturday, November 21st. He will not be here after that performance. Tickets are $20 for table seats and $25 for booths with a room and show package starting at $179. I hope this helps

    49. # StevieCat commented on November 10th, 2009:

    50. # Farrah commented on November 14th, 2009:

My name is Farrah from Iraq, I just wanna say I love you so much Eli and I love your voice you are amazing.

    51. # StevieCat commented on November 19th, 2009:

Ok, so it’s now Thursday Nov 19th and I’ve finally decided that I DO have enough money to make the trip to Turning Stone Resort & Casino to see Eli on Saturday 11/21. I have to wait until the box office opens to see if he’s still going to be there and also I need to see if there are rooms available (since it’s a 3 hour drive for us, we’re going to stay over). The only deal breaker would be if you have to be over 18 to see the show. Don’t know if it’s in a bar type setting or not. My 11 year old son is as big of fan of Eli as I am, so that’s how we talked my husband into doing this. If my son can’t attend the show, we’re not going. If he can, then I’ll go to the show and let you know how it was.

    52. # StevieCat commented on November 19th, 2009:

Ok, so this stinks. I can’t go to the show because it’s for 18 and older only (due to it being run by the “burlesque dancers” I’m told) so I won’t be going afterall. Darn….so close and yet so far…..

    53. # John commented on November 19th, 2009:

That’s too bad StevieCat. It would have been neat to hear about your experience there.

    54. # StevieCat commented on November 19th, 2009:

I know, I’m really bummed out about it.

I wonder why he doesn’t do any other venues in NY? He was so well received here. EVERYONE loved him!

    60. # George commented on August 11th, 2010:

Well I had the pleasure of booking Eli through his contact person listed on his website. Communications were terrible despite our settling on a date and deal. The date was confirmed with a brief email a few weeks before showtime in July 2010. Communications simply ended without a simple, “Sorry but Eli can’t make it” so people appeared for a show that never happened. For me, trying to reach someone who is responsible for booking is very difficult if not impossible. We have many “known” touring artists play our venue and nothing like this has ever happened. Contact info??

    61. # John commented on August 11th, 2010:

      George,
Sadly, that’s very believable, but unfortunate. Seems like Eli has gone through some really rough patches. They could at least communicate what’s going on.

Again, Sarah, (or should I say “still”) a very vindictive post at his fan site. Maybe you can visit my son’s email and tell him there’s no Santa. Just cuz it’s true doesn’t mean you have to do this at a place where people like him and follow him. We wonder where he is out of a desire to see him perform, not a desire to hear such negative things about him from someone hos is “very close to the situation.” Privacy belongs to everyone, not just “the innocent.” He hasn’t robbed a bank or killed anyone. Why you felt the need to say this is a wonder to me. I hope you never fall under a situation like this and then have your so called friends or people “close to your situation” go online and post it to the world.

Dear StevieCat, Please note “George’s” comments in this column:
      # George commented on August 11th, 2010: Well I had the pleasure of booking Eli through his contact person listed on his website.

      This was not an accident

      By the way,
Many of us love Eli and hope he finds his way to success. But he’s not Santa. We just want him to come to terms with his problems.

Yes, Sarah, and those of us who hope he finds his way to success don’t go on his fan’s websites and bash him. You have your own agenda. Don’t be so surprised that your comments meet with some resistance here. The booking thing is one thing, your attack was personal. You can respond all you like with all the arguements you like, but most of us here will always support him. We love him too (obviously). You see, it’s not Personal with us. It apparently is with you. Why you feel the need to win us over is a puzzle to me.

Enough of your poison darts already.
