"I’m incredibly surprised at Paul Potts’ review of her semi-final performance; one would have thought there would be empathy but instead there was simply ego and envy."
I haven't read it, but it is surprising. I don't care for Paul Potts - there are many real opera tenors who are so much better. Why buy Paul Potts' CD, when I can buy Roberto Alagna? Or Joseph Calleja or Juan-Diego Florez or, if you want young America, Stephen Costello, Lawrence Brownlee... Among others.

I think Susan Boyle is much much much better in her chosen repertory - musical - than Paul Potts was in opera. No, hers is not an operatic voice even if ahd had had some serious training it could've been. But it is a great Broadway voice. She is also very musical and I like the way she communicates the message of the songs she sings. Even if he missed a note or two in semi-finals.

By opera standards, Paul Potts butchered every opera aria he tried. Maybe he should not have tried opera at all? Susan, on the other hand, choose songs that are great for her voice and excelled in them.

Mandy,
No doubt Susan's story does provoke empathy, warmth and love. I think a huge part of the world loved to see Simon's face and his reaction when she was a good singer.

I imagine her debut album will sell well. If it doesn't, I'll be very surprised.

Susan is more than just a good singer. There is something about her that provokes empathy, warmth and love from people around the world, with the exception of a few jealous celebs. I expect her debut album to be a massive hit.

I wouldn't say that Diversity was purely physical. The genius wasn't the physical, because Flawless had that. The genius was in the creative choreography. Something I could watch forever.

Susan Boyle was good though and it will be interesting to see if she does record a record.

Like millions of other people, I was rooting for Susan Boyle...and she didn't disappoint. The dance act "Diversity" were incredibly good but they had no depth to their act...it was purely physical. She expresses the whole meaning of the lyrics and the music and I could listen to her voice forever. I'm incredibly surprised at Paul Potts' review of her semi-final performance; one would have thought there would be empathy but instead there was simply ego and envy. It seems he is wasn't happy that another singer has eclipsed him....because she has, despite coming second in the final this year. I bought Paul's first CD but I'll buy all of hers...whenever she makes one. Good luck, Susan. You're a star!
