Hi! Im Abbi and basically I love to sing.
Abbi,
Do you have any video or audio of you singing? I’d love to see it.
yeah, im planning on audtioning. I’m gonna singg!! I’ve had a lot of ppl tell me that i have a GREAT voice (i think it’s ok…) and that if i really try, i can win. i don’t believe that. but the cool thing: my vocal range is only a little lower than mariah careys. i can sing any of her songs that i want. lol! its funny…
look out for me! (if i can find where the auditions are…)
Kylie,
Do you have something online that we can hear? Let me know and I’ll post it on here for people to critique. Give you a jump start before going before Piers.
I am 12 years old and love to sing
I have been practicing for the next audition in nyc
When are they?
Hi Melissa,
Do you know your name is the same as the person who just won Nashville Star?
I’m not sure when they will be next, but if you keep coming back to this website I’ll post the information as soon as I find it.
Gosh, just like everyone else if I got the nerve to audtion (or if they even come near me) I’d be singing. My best friend wants to audition to and she has a fantastic voice.
Katie,
No worries about the nerves. In fact, if you’re worried about the nerves, how about you post the video on YouTube and we’ll give you feedback on how well we think you’ll do. Might as well post it in a nice intimate place like this website and get the feedback from the comfort of your own home instead of broadcast to millions of people with Piers making fun of you.
Hey John my name is Miguel Garza and Im a singer/songwriter. You can check out my stuff at myspace.com/miguelgarzamusic. Im 19 and the recordings arent great cuz I did them myself and all the instruments so there are mistakes. I think I sound better live with just my acoustic guitar and voice…tell me what you think.
Miguel,
Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you have some raw talent. However, it seems like you need to refine your singing and guitar playing a little more. You seem to slip out of tune every once in a while as you sing. Also, when playing guitar I’m not sure if the notes are just out of tune or if you’re just hitting the wrong ones. Might also be the recording sometimes, but sometimes the guitar sounds off.
I like your core sound, but could use some polish to really do well on the show. Also, I know you’re doing love songs, but some of the airy singing sounds like your trying to hard. Just let it come natural and work on controlling your voice and you’ll be very successful.
Best of luck and we’ll certainly be watching for you on the show.
Thank you
My cousin and I are thinking of auditioning for the next season!!! We are anxiously awaiting audition information so we can go to New York to audition. Carine,
I’ll let you know once I hear something.
The first song I believe you get to choose. Then, after that the producers choose a number of songs with usually one of the suggestions being the song they really want you to choose.
Hi John. Just happened to stumble across this site. Are you connected to the show? I do have questions – seems like you may know a bit?? Are you the man to talk to or should I keep searching?
Ok… just read the “About Pure AGT” page. I see you’re a dedicated fan. You’ve given some great advice – Looks like you know what you’re talking about! I’ll keep searching. Good luck to everyone auditioning this year!!
WHEN IS THE NEXT AUDITION FOR SEASON 4, IN LA?
can you send in an audition video tape?
shannon,
They did one on myspace last year and so you can probably do something similar again. However, I don’t think they have a pure audition video tape option.
Hello,
Im Regina, and I yodel
I am signing up for America’s Got Talent!
hi, i’m singing and i was wondering when the auditions were. about what month were they held for the season 3 auditions and may be the same months for season 4?
last season was it in december or later than that? or earlier?
sorry i have one last question.
what month do they usually hold the auditions in? like for season 3, was it in december or earlier or later than that?
so just what month might they hold it in if it was the same as season 3?
Shannon,
I’m not sure when they did them last year exactly, but I believe I heard somewhere that this season was going to be on earlier in the summer. Which makes sense since this year they had the Olympics going on which through off its schedule. Therefore, I’m not sure figuring out last year’s dates would be that helpful.
I’m still on the lookout for the audition dates and will post them as soon as I know.
Thanks for this site John! Looking forward to finding out when and where those audition dates will be…we can’t wait to audition!

im ten and im gonna sing at the auditions my friends say i sing good and i think i do ill give it a shot wish me luck!!!!
I sing in a blues band, called Mojofilter.
My boss told me she would pay my way to any audition just to see me pursue my dream. I live in Sikeston, MO. The same town Neal E. Boyd is from, he is/was a regular at our little bar and grill. He is a truly amazing guy! I would like to show the world that Sikeston has even more talent!!!
Jennifer,
Great story. I wish you all the best. Do you have any videos or anything up of your blues band?
Brianna Dotson,
Do you have anything online of you singing? Seems like 10 year olds have a good shot if they really can sing. However, I think Bianca Ryan set the bar pretty high for young singers like yourself.
i am 12 and i get told i am a really good singer and i can sing a bunch of taylor swift songs and i think i should give it a shot
I am a professional dancer and model currently calling Detroit my home. I will be attending the auditions for Americas’s Got Talent Season 4 – it’s time to live….

hey, sorry to bug you again but i do have just one last question.
do you have any idea when the video tape deadline would be?
shannon,
Sorry I don’t know. I’d say get it in really soon. They might just always accept them and use them for the next season if you are too late.

Hey yall! My name is Holly Hardin and I appeared on Season 3 of Americas Got Talent but got cut in Vegas! I will be auditioning in Atlanta! Hope to see yall there
do you have to send in a video tape audition to be considered a contestant or go to the open casting call? or can you just go to the open casting call without sending in an audition tape?
emma,
It seems like you can do either of the two or both. If you go to the open casting calls you don’t need to send a tape. If you send a tape, then you shouldn’t need to go to the open casting calls.
Of course, if you really want to be on America’s Got Talent, then you might as well try both. Otherwise, if you’re near an AGT open casting call, then just go there and show them what you got.
okay, thanks so much!
Hi,
I was wondering if you knew the deadline for sending in the audition tapes? I want to send it soon…but I’m afraid it might get lost in the holiday/Christmas rush! But at the same time, I should send it before January, just in case the deadline is like, now haha. Do you know if they watch ALL the tapes? I’m going back to school in DC, so I’m worried about the dates for the audition. Is it usually during the week? Or on weekends? I hope it’s the latter! I’m sorry for so many questions, but thank you SO much for the advice!
Alex,
I don’t think they’ve said. Plus, my guess is they might just leave the auditions open for the fifth season of the show. I’m pretty sure we’ll be getting a number of more seasons of the show.
My guess is that someone watches all the tapes. This person will filter the best and the worst to show to the producers and the like.
I believe that it is during the week, but I could be wrong. Most of them are a couple days also. Be glad you’re only in school. Skipping a class usually isn’t life or death. Just hope that you don’t have a test on that day.
K, thank you very much John!
HI GUYS i am soooo excited im going to be auditioning and like most if not all of the ppl who have blogging on this page i will be singing but i will be singing and i am telling you im not going by jennifer holiday but im afraid the judeges are gonna say “your just a bianca wanna be” and i really am not ive been practicing sooo hard and i know thats what there gonna say so they probably wont send me through ooooh i just dont know thats where you guys come in can someone tell me what i should and im not a bianca wanna be she actually my new idol and i really when step in her shoes and try to give it my all and if im better than her they will love it but if im not there gonna say im a wanna be but i won’t a be so plz plz plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help me i would greatly aprrciate it and good luck to all who are audtioning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Alex don’t worry you will be fine i promise!!!!!!
they dead line isnt that soon i thinks its like the end of january but im not sure on that one but i am sure that they dont watch all video once they get enough of that act they stop watching them and they dont watch the ones that arent correctly labled soo make sure you lable it right and send it in fast but dont worry about the dead line but they do stop watching the singers after a while sooo good luck and mabie i will see you there??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??
Hi John. My daughter, Angelle, age 9, will be auditioning for this season of the show. She has an amazing voice and can be seen singing at this website: kidzbop.com/contest/show_video/3159 although for some reason it didn’t upload to this site the best, so is not the highest quality. Check it out and let us know what you think. Thanks! Crystal
I also wanted to comment that the above performance is not necessarily her best. She can do much better on the cadenza, and usually does. This is, of course, a live performance at the Iowa State Fair in August. Crystal
I’m kinda iffy on this whole thing, so here’s a bunch of questions.
Do you have to send a tape or can you just go to auditions.
How many songs do I need to prepare.
What do I need to bring to auditions.
I just really want this.
You see, my father passed away a year ago
And my life kinda crashed. My mom does nothing
But drink and I need this so bad, so I can finally
Get out of this mess. I have the potential.
Thanks.
Crystal Waltz,
It looks like Angelle has a lot of talent and a lot of potential. I think she could definitely do well on the show. She has the potential talent and look that the show will want. We’ll see how well she can do with 10 million people watching her.
I really hope we get to see her on the show. Let us know if you audition and how it goes.
kalene,
You don’t have to send in a tape. You can just go to the auditions if you prefer. I think the show just wants to give as many avenues for submissions as possible. Last year they had myspace submissions even.
I’m pretty sure you’ll only need to prepare one song. I think they also have a time limit on what should be prepared. I’m sure they’ll have the details out once they announce the dates and times of the auditions.
It depends on your talent what you’ll need to bring. You might not need to bring much at all if you’re getting up and singing or something. Possibly the music you’ll use to sing.
Best of luck!

Wow, John. Thanks for the great and encouraging comments. Seriously, those were nice things to say. In fact, one of the casting directors has contacted us after I sent in a quicktime video and requested the signed release and hard copy of the DVD to show to the Execs. So, we are keeping our fingers crossed!!! I’ll keep you posted.
Well, when someone has talent I’m very happy to offer compliments. When they don’t, I like to tell them honestly what I think. I’m basically Simon Cowell with a little bit more tact.
We have another question. I usually play piano for Angelle. I have been watching videos of AGT online and it looks like the singers all sing to background tracks. Are there rules regarding this?? For auditions should I have her sing to a CD or can I play for her? Thanks.
Crystal,
Remember that I’m just a fan like other people. Possibly a little more informed than most, but still just a fan.
For the first audition, I think you can choose to play it yourself or have a background track. The fact is that playing the piano is a talent also and you and your daughter could be an act together. Just know that if you both compete, then they’ll judge your talent on the piano also. Unless you’re killer at the piano, then Piers will very likely say what he did on the first season with the harmonica brothers where he said the little brother needed to lose his big brother. Don’t be surprised if you heard that your daughter needs to lose her mother.
That said, you don’t have to compete with her and could still play the piano. However, if she does well, I’m pretty certain that the producers will pressure you to use a background track for her performances. I could be wrong, but I think that would be the case.
From what I’ve heard from past contestants, they offer you a couple choices of songs to perform with often one song in particular that they want you to perform. Remember they’re trying to create a compelling television product. They are more interested in that then they are in you.
I hope this helps.
That helps a lot. I think I will prepare her both with the background CD (which we have, anyway) and also with me playing piano. Then we’ll play it by ear when we actually get to the auditions.
Thanks. I appreciate your advice and suggestions.
Hello Everyone!
Season 4 Auditions for AGT in LA are January 29-31. After that we will be traveling to New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Seattle, Boston and Houston. Please register on the website to get updates about venue and audition tips and to schedule your audition.
You are welcome to send in a tape AND come audition. It’s great to see you in person but sending in a tape (or – new! – now upload a video at nbc.com/agt) gives you another chance to show your talent. Also, you can absolutely audition for the show simply by sending in a tape or uploading video
Some notes:
After the first audition there is more leeway for set up time but if you register at the website you will get more helpful info sent to your email.
All singing must be done a cappella – that is, without accompaniment. However, if your act involves playing along with someone singing – of course, then, that is your act. There will be a keyboard available at auditions. However, there is no set up time at the first audition, so if you’re playing guitar better do it acoustic or bring your own battery-powered amp.
As far as getting home audition tapes in or uploading footage – we would like you to get it in ASAP. by January 10th would be great, or by January 17. BUT – we do accept home tape submissions and uploads through the audition season (i.e. until mid spring) – and WE WATCH EVERY SINGLE ONE !
Just keep in mind the earlier you send it in the better!
….Kicking off a MASSIVE nationwide tour in Los Angeles January 29th – 31st, America’s Got Talent Season 4 will be traveling to over 9 major cities. Auditions will be held in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Seattle, Boston and Houston! Register for your chance to be seen, send in a tape, and upload your home audition footage NOW at http://www.NBC.com/agt

Kate,
Thanks a million for stopping by Pure America’s Got Talent. As you probably read from the comments, there are a lot of questions from people interested in auditioning. It’s nice to have someone reply that seems like their from America’s Got Talent.
Looking forward to the show. Keep up the great work!
Wow. Thanks for all that great info, Kate!! Angelle and I will see you in Chicago!!
One more question: How long will auditioners be able to perform once on stage at the initial auditions? In other words, would a singer perform their whole song, or need to edit it town to a certain time limit? Thanks.
if you send in an audition tape, how long does it take before they let you know their interested?
or if their not interested do they just not reply?
Nick,
I think it’s safe to assume you won’t get a reply if they’re not interested. Probably too many submissions to reply to everyone.
I know some people have already heard from the casting producers. So, you could hear something any time all the way through at least the end of the live auditions I’d think.
I want to audition for America’s got Talent SO BAD!!!
But, I’m too late to send in a video, and I don’t have time to go to Miami, the closest place to me.
What do I do???
Somebody plz help??????
missalikat,
It’s not too late. Just go check out http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/2009/01/10/americas-got-talent-audition-emails-sent-out-today/ and there is a link to the audition page where you can upload a video. There’s still plenty of time.
please see my daughter on youtube search “Pia Mia”. Music pieces are “A Moment Like This” or “All I Want for Christmas” and let me know what you think. Thanks,
Angela,
I hope you don’t find my comments as mean, cruel or offensive. I’m just trying to be as honest as possible with you so that your daughter can do as good as possible in her audition. I’m imagining as if I’m Piers and thinking what he might say on the show should you and her decide to audition.
I really enjoyed the videos and your daughter Pia Mia is very beautiful. My biggest problem is that her voice is rather whiny. I think that the video recording quality has a little something to do with it, but I think it’s probably not completely the recording. Am I wrong? Of course, I think some singers such as Julianne Hough have really whiny voices as well and she’s doing pretty well for herself.
I would have liked to see her smile more. In fact, in the entire “A moment like this” I never saw one nice smile out of her. I have a feeling your daughter has a beautiful smile in there that she’s not showing. It makes me think that she’s probably really nervous. A key indicator that someone is nervous is that they don’t smile. It doesn’t need to be contrived, but a nice natural smile at points would make the performance a lot better.
Of course, there were a few pitch problems here and there, but overall quite good for a 12 year old. She’s got such a wonderful look and works the stage pretty well also.
I’m going to post her two videos on this blog so that other people can possibly give you feedback also.
I hope you found this helpful.
[...] my post about the America’s Got Talent auditions, I’ve asked for people to submit videos of their talent so we could all see the talent before [...]
Hello,
I was hoping to audition as well….I’m not sure which video to send…Any thoughts or advice? here
s my link http://www.youtube.com/user/29thstreetoc
Bet,
I think that Casey singing “I’ll Stand By You” is by far my favorite. She looks nice, shows her ability to sing really well and is a semi popular song.
For those that don’t know as much about America’s Got Talent, song selection is as important as the talent itself on the show. Maybe not to make it to the top 20 or top 40, but once America starts voting if you’ve done songs that are popular and loved you’ll get votes just because the song is great (assuming you don’t butcher a great song).
I also enjoyed Casey singing “That’s How You Know,” but the backup/second voice (sounds digital right?) isn’t very good and so it distracts from Casey’s talent.
The audition one wasn’t bad, but it’s the wrong song for her I think. The camera work and lighting was distracting and the sound wasn’t as good.
I’ll plan on posting those to the site so people can see and comment on them.
what would you suggest wearing to the auditions?
Shannon,
Depends on what you’re planning to perform. I’d suggest not going to dressed down, but in most cases you don’t want to be too dressed up either. Something professional looking, but not over the top is good. You mostly just don’t want the judges distracted by what you are wearing. You want them to focus on your talent.
Hi John,
It’s Alex again! Thank you for all this info! Ok, I was wondering if you know why they keep pushing back the deadline for audition tape submissions? I sent mine in but haven’t heard anything :/ Depending on when the auditions are in DC, I might go there in person. But do they really let you know if they like your audition tape or not? Or are they extending the deadline because they don’t like what they’ve seen?
Basically what I do are vocal impressions, mainly of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. You can see what I’ve recorded on youtube, but I didn’t upload my aud. tape. It’s for your entertainment if you want to check out my channel!

Thank you!
Hi! I am going to send in or upload a DVD soon to AGT. I understand that the DVD has to be a cover if it’s a song I am playing or singing, but for the in-person auditions, is one allowed to perform an original piece? Also, I was a bit confused about the copyrights when I read the document you have to fill out for auditioning. In the event that I advance, I am planning on doing all original compositions except for perhaps one peice. Contestants are allowed to do original peices right? Does that mean that I need to obtain copyrights of my peices before I perform them on the show? Would it be foolish to perform original pieces that I have not copyrighted? So AGT would own the actual recordings and such of the performance itself but not the actual song, correct? The probelm is that sometime I write a song even the day before I play it in from of people so there would not be time in that case to do copyrights and such. Clearly, I know soo much about this (ha! not).
I play piano and sing. I know I can play piano and compose well, but the singing I started recently. I finally got brave enough to listen to a recording of myself and it was way better than I expected. Anyway if I audition, for example, with piano and vocals would I be allowed to do just piano in a subsequent round if I wanted to? Can I change my act at my own risk?
I’m sorry this is so long! I’ve never done anything like this before, but I believe I can do well. Any tips are very much appreciated!
Hey Alex,
Thanks for coming back and I’m glad you like the information on the site. Hopefully it’s all accurate since I’m just a fan of the show that runs this site. No ties to the show at all.
Anyway, I’ll see if one of the casting producers who stopped by can come and answer the question about the moving deadline. My guess is that there are a number of reasons for the changing deadline. These competitions are always in flux depending on what the producers/networks want to do with the show.
My guess is that they will let you know if they like the tape, but like job applications, they won’t tell if they don’t like you. Just too many applications to spend time telling people they don’t like.
If you’re able to go to the DC Auditions, you might as well try. The more chances they get to see you the better chance you have of getting in. Of course, that assumes you have talent (notice I haven’t watched your videos yet).
I’m going to take a look at some of your videos. Would you like me to post some of your videos to my site so people can provide you feedback on them?
WMgymoser,
Thanks for coming by.
I remember something about having to perform a cover, but I can’t remember the details. I’ll see if one of the casting producers from the show can stop by and answer that question. They did tell us the following about auditions:
“All singing must be done a cappella – that is, without accompaniment. However, if your act involves playing along with someone singing – of course, then, that is your act. There will be a keyboard available at auditions. However, there is no set up time at the first audition, so if you’re playing guitar better do it acoustic or bring your own battery-powered amp. After the first audition there is more leeway for set up time but if you register at the website you will get more helpful info sent to your email.”
I believe contestants are allowed to do original pieces. Last season, I think Nuttin’ But Stringz only performed original pieces the entire time. My understanding though is that the producers will work with you on selecting what pieces to perform (at least if you make it very far). My guess is that if they think you have good original stuff, then they’ll let you perform it. If they think your original stuff sucks, then they’ll probably force/convince you to do something more popular.
I’m not a copyright lawyer, but it would be a good idea to obtain copyright of your songs before performing them on the show. From what I understand it’s really easy to submit for copyright. One form if I remember right. I think you’re right about AGT owning the performance copyright, but not the actual song. Unless they spend a lot of time working on it with you and then I could see them owning the copyright to that arrangement or something. You’ll have to just look over the paperwork they have you sign.
That’s really cool that you perform songs you wrote the day before. Although, I’m pretty sure that won’t be happening on AGT. You practice during the week between shows to put your act together.
I think you can change from piano and vocals to just piano. Once again, they might try to sway you one way or another if they think one is better.
I hope some of this helps. Do you have any of your stuff online? I’d love to see some of it and post it for readers of this blog to see.
Hey John,
Ok.I will try to go in person. And as far as putting the videos up here, I don’t mind. I’m just afraid about security issues. Sorry if I sound paranoid about this haha, it’s just that those videos are pretty “valuable” to me right now and I’m afraid some people will use my video for something else(like, taking my recordings and messing around with them..since most of the videos are just a recording, not showing me doing the impressions.). So if you can upload them in such a way that they would be private and not able to be embedded on other sites, that’s fine.
If not, just by you taking a look at them is enough…so thank you! I really appreciate that!
Hey Alex,
I’m not sure why you’re worried about security. Actually, if you are worried, you shouldn’t post them on youtube at all. However, once they’re on there, the web has an incredibly memory and they’re hard to remove.
I’m not sure exactly why you’re worried about someone taking it and remixing it. I would think that if someone remixed it for you, that would be a good thing. It would give you more exposure and more feedback on what you’re doing. There’s not really a way to keep them private, so I’ll just comment a bit on here.
Did you see Joseph Hall on the last season of America’s Got Talent? If I compare what he brought to the show and your video, you honestly have a long way to go. I’m not sure that Joseph Hall’s voice was that much better of an Elvis impersonator than your voice is at doing Britney. However, Joseph Hall looked a whole lot like Elvis and even added a little to it with his own little quirks. Unfortunately, looking at the video I saw of you, I think you’re going to have a lot of work for you to impersonate the look of Britney as well.
I guess the thing is I think your act needs to be refined a lot more. The impersonators on the show have completely raised the bar where you probably won’t be considered.
If you want to be an impersonator on America’s Got Talent, you have to do both the look and voice. If you can’t do both, then you have to do one of them in such a unique and amazing way that it stands out. For example, you need to do an amazing mix of Britney, Christina, Rhianna, etc so that you can show a breadth. Another example of standing out was Terry Fator who won the show doing ventriloquism and impersonation.
If this is what you love to do, then keep working your heart out to perfect the impersonation and find something that makes your act unique and entertaining. The good thing is that the show’s been doing quite well so you’ll probably have another chance in a year to audition.
I hope you didn’t find this too critical. I’m just trying to be real and helpful.
Thanks John so much for all of the insight! I am working on a cover of Bless the Broken Road, so when I borrow someone’s video recorder and I do that I will send it. I am trying to have that done by next week so I can send it in by the revised due date of february 10th.
I am planning on going to the DC auditions because if I perform my own compositions I believe I have a real shot, but I think I would have a small chance of advancing with covers. I will be in touch soon!
WMgymoser,
Sounds like a good plan. Submit a video of you doing Bless the Broken Road and then possibly an original audition at the DC auditions?
By the way, I love Bless the Broken Road. So, if you do well, I’ll love it. If you hack up a song I love…well you know.
Looking forward to it either way.
Hey John,
It’s not the remixing I’m worried about…I’m just worried about someone taking my work and calling it their own.
Anyways, thank you for the feedback. I know what you mean…but I thought this show was about raw, “undiscovered” talent, not about people who already have access to professional wardrobe or makeup artists. This is something I’ve been able to do for about 8-9 yrs now…and it finally makes sense why on earth I have this little ability to do impressions. I don’t have the amenities to “be 100% in character” thru costume and makeup…and this show may be the only way I CAN do that.
And the videos you saw weren’t like the one I sent to AGT. Like I said, I didn’t put my audition tape on youtube. I put my “voice” only on youtube just for that reason…for people to listen to the impression, not watch at a look-alike. It’s the voice that matters I would think.
But thanks for the idea to do a mix of Britney and Christina, and Shakira..I think I’ll give that a try! Do you know how long our audition needs to be?
[...] then, sign up to audition for Season 4 of AGT so that I can be writing about you next. Related ArticlesA Few Jessica Price Quotes Before [...]
I think your point about finding undiscovered talent is interesting, because America’s Got Talent is the one show that has people who have been doing their act professionally competing on the show. For example, the famous quick change artist act I’d seen at Circus Circus in Las Vegas about a year before they performed on America’s Got Talent.
All of that said, your act doesn’t have to be perfect for the show, but it does have to have a wow factor that makes Piers and the other judges want to see more.
I’m not exactly sure how long the audition should be. If you’re submitting a video, it can probably be as long as you want (within the limits of the size of the video file). If you sign up on the website to get more info about the auditions, you should get an email with more details on how long your audition should be for the open cast calls.
The sad part is that you might go on stage for 5 seconds and get buzzed and that’s all you get to do. 3 buzzes and you’re done.
From what I’ve read and seen, at the initial auditions I think you have a 90 second performance, and I’ve been told to have a back up song ready in case they have you perform again that day.
Hi John,
I’m back just to re-ask the ‘cover’ vs. ‘original’ question. I could see why they would ask that of singers, but as flutists, we’d have to write a whole new piece as a cover and it doesn’t seem to serve any real purpose, since everything we do is original. I did see Nuttin but Stringz first audition, and I believe their tune was original…have they changed the rules, or does that rule mainly apply to singers? We will be headed to the Chicago audition!!! Wish us luck!

Hello All,
They literally just put up a helpful site with audition info for season 4:
http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/
This should answer most questions, but to recap.
-You get about a minute and a half at the first audition
-Wear what you would wear to perform on stage in front of an audience
-In-person auditions are better, but sending a tape in is great, too, and can give us a taste of your act before we see you.
-I don’t actually know why the deadline for tape submissions keeps getting pushed
WMgymoser – Your act sounds really interesting. You should have a cover or two ready to play at the first auditions. They may or may not let you play an original, but they will ask you to play a cover. I encourage you to send in a tape, come audition, but – have a cover or two ready! I admit I don’t really know about the copyright questions you had.
John, great rundown regarding original compositions!
You wrote:
“I believe contestants are allowed to do original pieces. Last season, I think Nuttin’ But Stringz only performed original pieces the entire time. My understanding though is that the producers will work with you on selecting what pieces to perform (at least if you make it very far). My guess is that if they think you have good original stuff, then they’ll let you perform it. If they think your original stuff sucks, then they’ll probably force/convince you to do something more popular.”
Good Luck!!!
In Sterio: I LOVE your music. I always loved flute music, though….so ethereal. We will be headed to the Chicago audition as well (my 9 year old daughter will be auditioning). Hope to see you there!
[...] the America’s Got Talent LA auditions. If you registered on the nbc.com/agt (like I suggested previously) then you should have gotten this email as well. It looks like they are requiring the email in [...]
You’re right Crystal. The new website/email said 90 seconds.
In Sterio,
I really love the sounds you’re able to create. Definitely is something unique that I haven’t really heard out of a flute before. At least the Anasazi one I listened to. Best of luck.
Kate,
Thanks for coming back and for the link to the new website. It answers a lot of questions.
hey,
sorry to bug you again but i really wanted you to see my audition tape and give me some feedback but i’m having absolutely no luck uploading the video.
so…writing this was kind of pointless, but still.
Hey Shannon,
Are you having trouble uploading it to your computer or uploading it to the internet? I’ll send you an email so you can try to email it to me. If you’re having problem getting it on a computer, that would be harder to help with unless you live in Las Vegas.
it’s on my computer but whenever i try to upload it to a site that let’s you upload videos it always says it’s failed. and i have no idea what to do.
Shannon,
Try sending it to me. I tried to email you, but the email you used to post your comment didn’t work. Try to post another comment with your correct email and I’ll send you my email so you can try sending me your video so I can try uploading it for you.
okay, there’s the new email. and thanks for all your help.
i sent it to you, but i’m not sure if it will work.
so….. i guess you’ll soon find out.
Thanks Shannon. I checked it out and I think I know what you’re doing wrong. I sent you an email with the details of how to export the video so you can upload it to YouTube.
I’m looking forward to seeing the video.
John or In Sterio: Please let me know if you get an e mail for the Chicago auditions. I registered Angelle to audition, but haven’t gotten such an e mail yet, but I figured those will be coming later as the Chicago auditions get closer. Just want to be sure, though!!
And with this weekend coming up, good luck to all those auditioning in LA!!
Hey Crystal,
I’m not registered for the Chicago Auditions. So, I won’t get an email. If you get one, let me know so I can post that they’ve been sent out.
Thanks!
Crystal,
We registered for the Chicago auditions, but haven’t received an e-mail either. We will definitely let you know when we do!!
In Sterio
hi my name is sabrina i love to sing its my life i made 1 song and its my dream to be on your show
hi my name is sabrina i live in florida its my dream to be on your show i love it and i sing good and i wil be waiting on info so i can call or just go and try out
Hey Sabrina,
Thanks for stopping by my website. I love America’s Got Talent as well, but this website is just a fan site for the show. You’ll want to go to the official audition website (http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/) and register for the auditions there.
I hope you do well and that we’ll get to see you on the show soon.
My name is Karl Knutson and I am auditioning in Chicago. I take The beautiful old Jazz Standards and sing them over funky hiphop beats. I am so excited to to try out. I am a Daddy of 3 little kids and I have always dreamed of this…Please look out for me.
God Bless!
Hi I’m auditioning for America’s got talent, obviously but i have a few questions. When you audition to you have to pay? I also want you to watch me singing, so just comment back to let me know :] hm..i probably had more questions but i forgot them haha
Karl,
I’ll check your stuff out when I have a second and see what I think.
Jackie,
You don’t have to pay them anything to audition. Although, you will have to sign a contract at some point in the experience which essentially ties you to the show for some period of time. Where can we see you sing? We’d love to see you and let you know what we think.
Keep the questions coming. As you can tell, this has become a very popular topic.
I got an email today asking for some help. I thought I’d post it here in case anyone knows.
“Was wondering if anyone there could tell me how to be in the audience at the Chicago America’s Got Talent audtions. Do I need tickets or how would it work? Could you help? Please let me know. Thanks”
I know where to get tickets for the show, but I’m not sure the auditions are open to the public since they’re taped and not live. Anyone else know better than me?
I think the Chicago auditions are just in front of producers, so not sure there’s really an “audience” to speak of. If you are supporting someone, I THINK you can go in with that person. Otherwise, I’m not sure that the auditions are open for public viewing. Maybe someone can answer who knows for sure.
Once I upload it I’ll post it on here. But also should you already have all the paperwork filled out that they have on the website when you get there, or can you fill it out when your there? I’m kind of confused about that. Thanks :]
Looking forward to seeing it Jackie. My guess is that it will be easier and better for you if it’s filled out before you go. However, there have always been reports of long waits in line. So, you could probably get away with doing it there. I’d just hate to have you at the front of the line and then because your paperwork wasn’t filled out, you get sent to the back of the line and have to wait. I guess it’s up to you.
That leads me to another question. We already filled out and sent in Angelle’s paperwork with her video. When we audition in person, I am thinking we don’t have to take paperwork again since they already have it. Does that sound right to you?
You’d think that would make sense Crystal. However, considering the crowds and a possible lack of organization you might want to bring the paperwork with you. Hopefully you made copies of the paperwork you sent so you don’t have to do it again.
How lengthy is the paperwork anyway? You can tell I don’t have talent and so I won’t be auditioning.
[Removed Hard Drive Location of Video File]
Hah my acting coach told me to make it more energetic, so sorry for all the hand motions stuff. Feel free to add comments and criticism. :]
Jackie Falk,
I’d love to see the video, but that address that you posted was just the location of your video on your computer. You can go to http://www.youtube.com and upload that file and then send us a link to that file on youtube and we’ll be able to watch it. I hope that makes sense. They’ve made it pretty easy to do.
Yeah I thought about that, but you have to go to internet i think then paste the link but I think it’ll be easier to just upload the video on youtube. thanks
I went to today’s audition in ATL and it was great!! I think I did pretty good!! Lets see about the call
Was wondering if you could answer this question. My daughter wants to try out…in NYC. We sent the email a while ago to receive updates on nbc.com and recently for the NYC auditions to set a time (I guess they give a 2 hr time frame). When do you hear from them as to what day & time they have selected for you to attend?? We have a competition on the 15th and was hoping it would be the Friday or Saturday.
Thanks
Stephanie,
Can you comment/provide details of what the process was for the tryouts??
Thanks
Bonnie,
Just know that I’m only a fan and you should check out the official America’s Got Talent website for the official details: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
That said, the NYC auditions aren’t for another month so you probably won’t get an email until it gets closer. I got an email for the LA auditions about a week before the date. So, I wouldn’t stress yet. They do give you a 2 hr time frame, but don’t be surprised if you’re there much longer.
I think you might enjoy this first hand account of one person’s LA audition experience: http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/2009/02/02/first-hand-experience-at-americas-got-talent-la-auditions/
Hopefully this information is helpful. Keep an eye on the official site(http://americasgottalentauditions.com/) and you’ll get all the details.
We went through the LA auditions and have no idea as to what comes next, if selected to continue. Does anyone know what the next stage of competition is, where, and when?? I heard it was “Boot Camp” for a week, in Las Vegas. Then what???? Any information about the process would be greatly appreciated. We are a group of women tap dancers, auditioned on Saturday, Jan. 31, and were given very positive feedback.
I would be happy to comment on the audition–it was a long day but a lot of fun. More to come on that.
Thank you for any information.
Lauri
Hi I’m Sammy I’m 13 and I will be auditioning in NYC or Miami. I’m gonna sing And I Am Telling You or Listen, both from Dreamgirls. I love love love to sing! But i have no idea how the audition process works! Can someone explain for me?
I really want to audition but im afraid its to late. is it? i need info and an answer asap please please please
i have talent and i want to audtion quick
Hi John. I have been singing all my life and i ahve talent i can promise you that. i really want this.I have a twin sister and we both have talent and would liek to audition please help me out. i have a friend whos auditioning but im afraid its to late. please respond or email me with an update. thank you so much =)
Lauri,
Just know that I’m only a fan and you should check out the official America’s Got Talent website for the official details: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
Boot camp in Las Vegas sounds about right and I seem to vaguely remember it being a week last year. I could be wrong though.
Women tap dancers have done relatively well in the past. Never been able to make it to the top, but they’ve often made it to the finals. Just make sure you’re dead on and in unison or Piers will rip you apart.
I’ll email you to see about you doing a guest post about your experience.
Sammy,
I suggest you read everything at the official America’s Got Talent website for the official details: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
You’ll need your parents to participate in the audition process so have them close by when you’re reading all the details.
That website does a pretty good job in explaining the details and if you go to that website you can register for an audition city and they’ll email you more details about the process.
Best of luck!
Beza,
Just know that I’m only a fan and you should check out the official America’s Got Talent website for the official details: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
However, if you look at that site there’s still time. They’ve only done 2 audition cities and it looks like they’re still accepting video applications even if your city isn’t open.
Twins would be a good twist to the show. Double the entertainment. Double the fun. I think the producers will probably like that.
Anyway, make sure you visit and register at the official website I linked to above to make sure you get all the details.
Let us know how you did so we can cheer you on if you make it to the show.
Ok John. Thank you so much =)
Omg. DDo you think im to late because in there up next section is washington dc feb 13-14 which is this sat. and i havent submitted anything in. what should i do? i really want to do it this year.
Beza: Auditions are open so you can always show up and stand in line.
Beza- you don’t really need to submit anything but you might want to pre-register and after you have done that just fill out the paperwork they provide you on the site. Then prepare whatever your act is and you can audition :]
I plan to audition in Washington D.C. on Saturday, February 14, 2009
What is the location and time to audition in DC on Saturday, February 14, and what helpful hints if any can you give someone before auditioning
The location is given at the website John gave me:
http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
How do you preregister?
i pre-registered and the link on my email didnt work. how and will i be contacted to know my audition times??? im going this weekend in DC and my mom has been bugging me about my audition time!
How easy is it to advance to the next round? Do you have to really blow them away or is it like on the first round of american idol where if they see that you may have some talent they let you through to see what you can do
umm hey u talkin 2 me..
im sorry but if u r im just auditioning 2.
im tryin 2 figure out wats goin on 2.
u no:)
Here’s the link to pre-register on the official AGT site: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/register
My guess is that if you pre-register and get an audition time you might have to wait less time. However, I’m guessing you’re still going to have to wait a bit no matter what you do.
Like someone else said, my understanding is that it is open auditions so you can just show up at the auditions and hopefully get in.
Sammy,
I’m not sure anyone but the producers of the show know how hard the first round is. They (purposefully?) keep the audition process vague so that they can adjust as needed to make the show as entertaining as possible.
Im 11 and im gonna try my best.
Well gracias for all of the help. I pre-registered and im going to DC this weekend! i think i’m gonna sing because of you by kelly clarkson but im not 100% sure yet
I never got an e-mail for the time and date of New york, was i supposed to?
how do you pre-register?
Best of luck Connor!! The young kids are always so cute.
Sammy, if something on here helped that makes me happy.
Jackie Falk, I’m guessing you don’t need to worry since they haven’t even announced the location. Without a location it would be hard to send out an email. Keep checking the official AGT Audition website and you’ll see updates.
Shannon, you can preregister on the official AGT Audition registration page: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/register
Angelle got her e mail for the Chicago audition. Her time is March 2nd, 2:00 p.m. We have to come back Monday night and it’s a five hour drive, AND we both have to go to school the next day. What time do you think she could be done? I know we should show up at 12:00, which we will definitely do. In Sterio, do you know what your time is yet?
Hey guys… my band The Understudies has sent in a video online and we are looking to have something happen! Here is our video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf6w7Abc0sY
Crystal,
March 1st @ 8am (yeesh)!!!! We’re jealous of Angelle’s time
Not sure how long it will take, or if there’s even a way to judge…seems like it’s an anything goes kind of day!
In Sterio
Good Luck to you In Sterio!!! Angelle’s time worked out perfectly as she and her sister both have a Suzuki recital the day before, so the 1st would not have worked for us at all. Whew. But, you might be one of the absolute first to audition!! That would be nice, too. Wish we could have met you. Keep in touch and let us know if you end up hearing back from them. We’ll do the same!!
Crystal,
If you look at my 2 most recent posts:
http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/2009/02/14/experience-at-washington-dc-agt-auditions/
http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/2009/02/14/tap-sensation-experience-at-americas-got-talent-la-auditions/
You see 2 very different experiences. One was out in 30 minutes time. The other one was there what seems like about 5 hours. I’m sure there’s a ton of factors in determining how long you’ll wait, but I hope this helps some to give you perspective.
Remember that your daughter can always sleep in the car on the way home if needed.
I can’t wait to hear back from both you and In Sterio. Feel free to use the contact me page: http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/contact-us/
to share your experience with me.
AJ,
You’ll want to post your video to the official AGT audition website: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/submitvideo
This site is just a fan site and so anything posted here is just for fun. Thanks for sharing though.
Your act is a little raw, but I think that it was actually quite entertaining. This is a type of act that I think the show likes a lot. A little bit of an underdog group that’s not fully refined.
One little comment, considering you did so many close ups on the drummer it would be better if he was a little more into it all. He seemed really focused on the drumming, but when you’re on camera you have to give it just a little bit more.
Best of luck!
I never auditioned or anything yet so does that mean I can’t try out? Is there any other auditioning times that I can go to, to get real audition for the show?
Hank,
Go to the official AGT audition website and check out the various audition cities to see if your city has already passed: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/Audition_Cities
If your city is still available, then register on the official website http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/register
If none of the cities will work for you, then go and submit a video audition http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/submitvideo
Good luck!!
Oh thanks. So I don’t need to get an audition time or anything? I can just show up there, wait my turn, and sing?
Hank,
I’m not a producer and I don’t have any ties to the show. I’m just a fan like you. However, everything I’ve seen says it is an open audition. I think open means that you can just show up and audition.
Of course, it’s much better to register and get a time. If you show up without a time I’m sure they make no promises that they’ll have time to see your audition and you will probably have to wait longer. So, try and register. Even if it’s a little late.
Hey John…. yeah we did send it in to the OFFICIAL AGT people we just have it on youtube for people to see what we think of it.. Thanks for the input on us!!!
hi, i am 15 years old and i am auditioning in boston for ATG. i am singing.. but i was wondering, for the first round, are you able to use a backing track ( karaoke) ?
please reply. thank you
alexandria,
If I’m remembering right, the first round you have to do it a cappella. Then, after that you can use a backtrack.
Best of luck! I hope you do really well!
thank you
.. but what is the difference between a backtrack and karaoke? because i cut my karaoke c.d to 1 minute 30 seconds, and i was practicing with that, but then i hear you have to do acepella for the first audition…
Hi, Do you possibly know when the latest lime to send a tape in is Because I’m not able to make the auditions in Chicago so do you know if it’s too late?
Also, the reason I couldn’t make it to the Chicago audition is because I needed to get one on March 1, but ended up getting it on March 2. I’m not sure if you would know this but do I have to go to that audition or would they let me do it on March 1?
And can you e mail them???
What I meant to say was, do you know their e mail address?
Good Evening,
Just checked my spam mail from 2 weeks ago and there was an email from AGT. They set up my daughter’s audition for Boston…we wanted NYC (because I am working the Boston weekend) any suggestions on what to do??
Thanks,
Hi John
I was at the Washington DC. Audition on Feb 13th.
Everything was run like clock work. My hat goes off to the entire staff at AGT. The only problem I had was that I’m 58 years old and have sung in a basement band, in bars, and pubs, and don’t hear as well as I use to. Well I could not hear what they were saying about the # order that we would be called for the audition. The room had a very bad echo. I was 4030115 and sat there like a dummy before I ask some one. They rushed me upstairs, and before I new it I was singing.I was a little flustered and out of my zone. I don’t think I did as good as could have, stumbling a little with the words. The acoustic in the room were very good. I wished I had sang Hello instead.
My video Hello, on You tube is doing very well. 2000 views in 2 weeks. And some very good comments. Will AGT look at my videos as part of my audition process ? .
Thank You Neal Farley
Alexandria,
I think in most cases a backtrack and karaoke are the same. Although some karaoke have someone singing on it as well. That wouldn’t be good of course.
You should be prepared for a cappella though.
Dan,
Last I heard they left the video submissions with an open ended date. I imagine at some point they’ll have to cut it off, because there wouldn’t be time to get you on the show. Not sure what date that it. I’m sure they’ll post when video submissions are closed on the official website http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
As far as the different Chicago dates. I’d comment on the forum on the official website I linked to above. See what they say. However, my understanding is that they are open auditions and don’t necessarily require that you pre-register. So, push comes to shove, just show up on the day you can make it and they’ll probably see you. You just might have to wait a little longer if you haven’t pre-registered. At least this is my understanding of what they are calling “open auditions.”
I hope this helps. Good luck!
Bonnie,
Like I just posted for Dan. Try to just show up to the auditions. My understanding is that they’re open audition calls and so you can just show up and audition. I know on the official website during the DC auditions the website said just show up and be seen.
I hate to say this if I’m wrong, but I’ve seen it a number of different places and so I feel comfortable suggesting this option.
You might also consider pre-registering again on the site and change your location preference to NY auditions. Maybe you’ll get another email with a NY audition time.
I bet the producers won’t really like duplicate registrations, but then again I bet they deal with a lot of duplicate registrations.
Neal,
Thanks for sharing your experience. Should be helpful to other people auditioning.
I should put the disclaimer that this is just a fan site and not the official fan site. However, on the official fan site, you can submit your video to be seen by the producers of AGT at the following link: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/submitvideo
I just checked and I was wrong in my comment above. Turns out you have until March 1st to submit your video (per the link above).
if they gave you an audition time do you show up and tell them you have a specific time or will you have to wait in line like everybody else to try to at least get an audition?
shannon,
I’m guessing they move you around to different lines/waiting areas depending on if you have a time or not. However, I’m not 100% sure. Maybe someone who has been to the auditions will be able to answer your question better.
I would guess that if they gave you an audition time, they’ll make the extra effort to make sure you get a chance to audition. I don’t think you’d have to worry about not getting an audition. Wouldn’t be right.
Ok. so I found there email address and I emailed them asking if they could change my time. Luckily, they emailed me back and said I should come on March 1 at 8 am or 2 pm, instead of March 2. But on my registered sheet, it says my audition is still on March 2. So I don’t think they would know that they changed my time when I come on March 1. So should I just print the email they gave me and show it to them when I get there? Or do you have any other ideas of what I should do?
Dan,
That’s impressive that they were so responsive. I’d just take the email and the original registration and not worry about it. I get the feeling that the just have you pre-register so that people show up at different times during the day. I don’t think it really matters all that much.
As far as other things you should do, knock it out of the park and then come back here and tell us how it goes. One last suggestion, if you win, hook me up with front row seats to your first performance.
Hi I was at the Washington D.C. audition on Feb 13th 2009. I got there at 6:30 am there were 114 people ahead of me, but I was inside in 20 to 30 min. When you get inside you go to a table turn in your paper work. Note ! You should make a extra copy of your application. They ask us to fill another out when I got there. Also just in case you loose yours.
1. You get 90 seconds to perform your song or act and singers are required to sing Acapella. No backing tracks. No exceptions.
2. You get a Official AGT number tag and you do your audition in the order of your number.
3. When I was leaving at 3:30 pm they were excepting people who just got there.
4. When you get there everybody waits in a big room , until they call your numbers. They called 50 numbers at a time.
5. We went outside for 30 min to do a promotion video. They want you to yell and scream, but if you are a singer I recommend you fake scream to save your voice.
I hope this is some help Neal
Dan,
Can you provide me with the email address…I want to change my daughters date too.
Thanks,
Hey John me again… I was wondering if you could post my video of my band on this site … before we go audition in Houston ( hopefully ) …. but could you post it for everyone to see thanks!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf6w7Abc0sY
AJ
Hey AJ,
Your wish is my command: http://www.pureamericasgottalent.com/2009/02/23/americas-got-talent-hopeful-the-understudies/
Best of luck at the Houston audition!
John,
Thank you for taking time to help all of us out with our questions and stuff that we don’t know. That’s really cool and thank you!
Hi Shannon, I just do what I can. It’s fun to be able to help people. I just hope that my answers are right. I’d feel really bad if something I said was wrong and someone’s audition didn’t go well. My only consolation is that hopefully we can all share our experiences and learn together.
Plus, I hope you’ll come back here and visit my blog once the show starts as well.
Bonnie,
Yeah sure, I emailed them on this address americasgottalent@fremantlemedia.com. Hope that helps you.
And John, I’ll be sure to get you a seet….If I win.
Bonnie,
If when you click the address, on the top if it says Americas got talent 2 times, then erase one of them. Because I tried to do that with both of them and it’s too long to send. At least it was for me, so you should probably want to send it twice. One time with the original address and then next with the fixed one. Just to make sure. It should work
Bonnie,
The first time I tried to send the email on that address, it didn’t let me because the address was too long in the to column at the top of the page. So for the second one, I erased half of the address so that it only said ameicasgottalent@fremantlemedia.com only once. You should email them 2 times. Once with the whole address and then one with the fixed address, just to make sure. Hope it works!
Bonnie,
if it doesn’t work for you then ask me again because I think I have something else you can try.
Thanks, Dan….I’ll give it a try when I get home from work today.
thank you so much!
also, does it matter if your song is not in the top 40?
say classic rock..joan jett, pat benatar…?
opposed to pop music. i am a pop and rock singer.. and i am having trouble picking which to audition..
please help!
alexandria,
It’s definitely a bit of a crap shoot to choose a song. I’ve always suggested going with a very popular song, because then people will like you for the song as well as everything else you bring to the table. Song choice is really important. Think about it from the producers perspective. They want to put something that will entertain people on TV. If you sing a song that nobody knows, then the audience probably won’t be as entertained. If you bring a song that people know and love, then they’ll either love what your doing or hate you for ruining a song. Either way, that will make the producers happy because it creates good television.
Someone else posted that they thought you should do power ballads. Not sure where they got that idea, but sounded reasonable to me. I’m just not sure that’s pop or rock though.
I’m 12 & I am a singer. Since I probaly can’t make it to the auditions in NYC, I attempted to uplode a video, but, I was not able to because I had to be 13 or older. People compliment my singing all the time, but, all I really desire is the truth & I guess I’d better give it a try & go to professionals. I honestly do not like my voice..but, I can nail a large amount of notes. I would appreciate your help on what I should do now. When I come back to the website to uplode, it says ‘Sorry, you must be 13 or older…’. Kind of irritating! I’m just about at the dead line..!
Michelle,
Go and ask one of your parents to help you. If you don’t have their help and consent, then there’s no way you’ll be on the show anyway.
If you have their help, then they can legitimately say that you are over 13 and you can upload the video. Without them, you’ll go no where I’m sure.
To get around the previous attempt under 13, just clear your cache and cookies and it will probably work. Although, it might even be easier for you just to go and download a new web browser which shouldn’t stop you. I suggest FireFox http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ or Chrome http://www.google.com/chrome which are both free and what I use every day.
Best of luck and make sure you have your parents involved or you’re just wasting your time.
Hi,
Thank you for your information. I can just ask them for permission if they can say that I’m over 13 and I can just upload the video..?
Well, my computer was already restarted by another house member, & when I went back on the site, they allowed me to say that I’m over 13 & I uploaded or is uploading the video now. Thanks for your help, again.
I can always try again next year, anyway. xD.
OMG OMG OMG! i just found out about the auditions in boston like yesterday! my brother, sister, and i have like 1 week to each pick the song we want to do and get it down perfectly! i am really really nervous that they aren’t going to like me, but i think thats just bc im scared…not bc i think im bad. all of my siblings including myself have a special talent when it comes to music so i just need to calm down and focus(: i was wondering though if u had any advice…bc we are basically kids and we dont know what to expect at all. and also…could u inform me about like all the rounds there are??
-thank u thank u thank u(:
Lily,
Glad you found out about the auditions before it was too late. A week should be enough time to get ready. Just take it one day at a time and you’ll do fine.
I’ll see if I can take a few minutes later tonight and write down some suggestions for those auditioning for the show.
The rounds depend on the show. They can change each year at the producer’s whim. Although, from what I’ve heard, it sounds like there are initial auditions in front of the producers, then there will be callbacks to perform for the celebrity judges.
After that I assume the celebrity judges will send people to Las Vegas like before. Then, the top 20 (or 40 depending on the year) get sent to Hollywood. Then, unlike other shows, they usually chop about half of the people at a time until they announce the winner.
Anyway, that’s what I remember happening in past years. I hope this helps give you an idea.
Has anyone heard back from the Producers on the LA auditions?
i pre registered for the boston auditions, which are in a week, and i have not heard from them yet.. can anyone tell me something about this?? has anyone heard them.. i have not recieved a confirmation email either…..
do i stil just go?
I did not receive my confirmation until 3 days before my audition, so don’t worry. I was there at 7:00 in the morning. When I left my audition a lady had just got there that was at 3;00 pm. They WILL excecept you if you just show up, but don’t forget your paper work.
Neal
Deanna,
I still haven’t heard anyone that said anything about getting call backs. I’ll post it when I hear.
Alexandria,
What Neal said. Just go (with your paperwork)!!
Thanks John,
Nice guy you are! : )
Keep Singing!

Okay so I auditioned in DC 2 weeks ago and I think it went well!! We were waiting in line for like 6 or 7 hours though! But its totally worth it. they said they would call me if i made it in 2-3 weeks and its been 2 weeks. does anyone know if they actually call in 2-3 weeks or if they just say that and call in like 4?
Sammy,
I’m guessing not even the producers of the show know when they’ll go out. It’s probably an evolving process of decision making with constantly evolving time lines. If they really knew how long it would take they’d have given you a more specific time.
I was also at the DC audition on Feb 13th I got there at 7:00 and only waited in line for less than 1 hour.
I have spoke to a person who has been contacted by AGT
just 2 days ago. They have to go to New York on March 14th to audition in front of the celebrity panel. If they make it there in. They could call today or up to the middle of March. So hang in there the next call you get could be them.
Good Luck Neal
Note 1
I made a error on the date of the persons call back audition date it is March 17th not March 14th. In New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom Manhattan Center Studios 311 West 34th Street.
Sorry about that
Neal
Ok! So I had my audition on march 1 and it went pretty good! I got there at about 10:30, and I had to go to this one room on concrete floor for about 4 hours! We finally got into the actual waiting room and waited in there for about 7 and a half hours! Yeah a long time. But finally I got called to a room and me and about 6 other people who were assigned to that room because of what there act was were brought up stairs to some rooms. I waited for about an hour before I went in, but when I did I finished my performance they said it was really good and that I was very likeable and interesting. They sent me to another room and I don’t know if it was the producers but only a few people went to that room. I played for them and they one of them said it was very good but I don’t know if they say that to every body. Probably but They said it was good and then I finally left the building at about 10:30. But it was fun
Neal,
Thanks for letting us know that there’s been a call back. Looks like they should start happening anytime for people.
Interesting to read about the long waits people have had. Half have had long waits and the other half had short waits, but everyone said it was a great experience.
Hi,
Received a call from AGT today. They were confirming my daughters appt for Boston. Told them we could not attend and asked for NYC…he said he would make a note of it. This afternoon I got an email for NYC audition on the 13th at 2p. We will be there.
Do I still have to get the paperwork signed by a notary even if I am her parent and going with her (not sending G-ma)??
Also, at the other auditions when you have a later time…was there another line to go to so I do not get mixed in with the stand-bys??
Thanks
Bonnie, you do not have to have the paperwork signed by a notary if you are her parent and going with her. It really does not matter what time you go. No, there is not a different line for anyone who has an e mail with a specific time (session group) to show up. Basically, it is first come first serve…if you show at 6:00 a.m., you might be out of there earlier, but if you show at Noon, your daughter might be more well-rested. It’s a matter of personal preference, I think. There is alot of waiting involved, but it is SO WORTH IT! What a blast!!!
IN STERIO….without jeopardizing the AGT contract rules, how was Chicago for you??? We had a blast!!!
Hey Crystal!
We had a blast also!! It was a long day for us (11 1/2 hours)…but what an experience, right?? Hope to see you in LA!!
In Sterio
Yes, ours was a long day, too, but it didn’t seem long. We were there 7 hours. Worth every minute, though!! Hoping to see you in the next round!!
Good luck and take care! Crystal
I have an audition in Houston. I intially signed up for Austin but I received an email to RSVP for Houston. I am very excited!!! I have a Youtube channel so feel free to check it out, I can’t wait until audition time!
. I hope I make it on the show that would be SOO AWESOME!
I sang a Mariah Carey song, “Love Takes Time”
http://www.youtube.com/nativeVe
Hey,
My name is Dudley im a singer, and a dancer, i performed my original pieces as well as covered pieces in many places, my whole family is full of talent, my Uncle(Riguad Duverne) that passed away years ago was a well known artist to the Haitian Community, he had his own band name “Helping Hands” with current artist “Wyclef Jean” as his guitarist and i feel as it’s my turn to pick up where he left off.
Best of luck Native and Dudley Duverne! You’ll enjoy the experience regardless of whether they take you or not.
Thank you, John
Thanks John!!!
Hi,
I am getting nervous, and I am not even auditioning. Just looking for some input. My daughter 11 yo wants to sing On My Own from Les Mis for the audtion on Friday. I think she should sing Taylor Swift My,My,My…AKA Mary’s Song. She says…”Mom that song doesn’t show my range.” Which is funny. What does everyone recommend??
Plus when we go to the audtion at 2p is there just one line for opens and another for those of us given a time??
Thanks,
I’m not sure Bonnie. I had to RSVP for 8:00am on May 9 and I was wondering the same thing! Since, it’s an open audition I would think there would be one line, but then what’s the point of assigning times slots?
Bonnie,
Taylor Swift is a huge deal now. Les Mis seems a little too big for an 11 year old. My, My, My is a good song, but Teardrops on My Guitar or of course Love Story would be even better choices if she can do them well. I’d say it’s all about production value for the show. I’ll post my disclaimer that I’m just a fan here. So, take my thoughts for what they are worth.
I’d recommend you read other people’s AGT Audition experience. They’ll give you a good idea of what the process is like.
To answer your question more specifically, people have reported that there is really only one line. The advantage you have of registering is that you’re done with the paperwork before you get there. My personal feeling is that the times are just to space out when people show up to the auditions. I could be wrong, but that’s what I think is happening.
People have spent anywhere from a couple hours to 11 hours at the audition. So come prepared come what may. I hear the NY auditions are going to be huge. So, if you’re going there, get ready to hurry up and wait. Also, be ready to have the experience of a lifetime. Everyone comes away happy from the experience.
Hi my session is at 8 a.m. tomorrow and I was wondering, if I’m going then and I have guests that were coming too do they also have to come at 8 or can they come at like 10 or whatever? And do you have to wait on line the entire time after you get your wristbands?
jackie,
It’s a good question about your guests. I’m guessing they can find a way in, but I’m not 100% sure. They’d definitely have to fill out the paperwork or something I’d think. Hopefully someone who has been to an audition already will know the answer.
From what other people have said of their experience, after you get your wristband you go to a holding room. Often, they’ll move you around to different rooms and have you wait in halls for your turn. So, if you consider that a line, then yes.
John, Do people with given times actually audition at that time?
Ohh and one more thing i got two emails, with two different dates which one do i go to?
Dudley,
I’ve seen reports of anywhere from 2-11 hours after the audition time for when people actually audition. Either way, that’s just a time to show up. Plan on a long day.
If you got 2 emails, then I guess that means that you can choose which one you prefer. I’m quite sure they’re not going to be checking if you show up at the proper time or not. It is open auditions after all.
I’d like to state that I cannot make it to this year’s america’s got talent or, this weekend’s auditions in New York city. I got a email on the time I’d have to show up. Which is, Sunday at 8 AM or Saturday at 2 PM. If I don’t show up, is it okay?
I wish the rest of you good luck & hope to find other nice people that I will meet, next season.
Michelle,
They’ll probably beat you with a wet noodle. Just kidding. I don’t think they’ll even notice.
hi. i had an audition in boston on march 7th.. they said it would be a few days… website says 1-4 weeks.. has anyone been called yet for round 2?
how many contestants are they looking for to kick off the show?
Well, this is a last minute thing and I am going to the auditions! Yay. I’ve pre-registered and this lady called my mom, saying that the auditions were only on Saturday. Is that true? We can’t go on sunday? On Americasgottalentauditions.com, it still says March 13th to 15th. I’m really at the deadline. I’m not sure. And, it also says on the site that the people there ‘may’ tell you if you made it to the 2nd round or not. Does that mean they tell you if you make it or not? OR does it mean that they might tell you now or call you later to tell you that you make it? Thanks – Mich
Mich,
Just wanted to share our NYC story today…very interesting. Our time was 2 pm, but we showed up a little before noon. The main area was like a ghost town…they actually walked us into the other holding area. There we sat thought for 4 1/2 hrs. Interviews going on by NBC and taping some people doing their talents. From there they called numbers in groups of 50 stood in a hallway and waited another 30 mins or so before audition. 5 people in a room, one producer, camera guy and girl on the computer. Each contestant sang…they said thanks we’ll let you know in 2-3 days. I had heard others come out at different times saying they were all told the same thing. I thought they were letting people know today….not so. Will wait and see.
Good luck, I am sure your lines on a Sat/Sun are going to be a longer wait…bring the i-pod and Nintendo.
Bonnie,
Thanks for your story, it helped. Another contestant informed me that the best time to be there is in the afternoon because everyone attempts to go in the morning, thinking no one would be there. I guess NYC is about the main city they are hosting it in. The judges will be here within later this week. No wonder the lines are so long..5 people in a room. 4 1/2 hours isnt so bad compared to the normal time…6. I thought they didn’t take this first round.
Good luck with your results! Well, since my mom took my Ipod, & I don’t have a Nintendo, I’m bringing my STephenie Meyer book. xD.
I’m leaving pretty soon. I’m a singer & I was thinking about either singing “Better in time” or “Run”, covered/performed by Leona Lewis. What would you say? I would sing a Beyonce song, but my parents perfer Leona’s music. By the way, I am twelve.
Re: Sunday auditions in NYC… I emailed back and forth a few times with AGT staff and I was told that auditiona are open on Sunday starting at 8 am. Same start time in every city. Do plan to be there for the entire day as it can be a long process. I auditioned in Boston and while it’s well organized, it’s a full day. Bring snacks and something to listen to or read.
Just like several others here I sang professionally for several years but have been out of “the game” for 4 years. I got slammed with nerves before going in to sing- not something I’m used to at all! I wasn’t happy with my audition in Boston so I’m hitting NYC. AGT staff confirmed this is ok so I’m looking forward to it! If nothing else I’d like to be satisfied with myself this way if I don’t make it on to the show at least I won’t be plaugued by the “what if’s”. kwim? Good Luck everyone! I hope some REAL talent gets recognized.
Glad to know that if I’m out of town, there’s still plenty of people to answer questions. This is especially good since in a week I’ll be going on a trip for a week and probably won’t have much internet access.
Hi,
I auditioned yesterday. I pre-registered and sent in an audition video, which is on my site and youtube.com. I was contacted about two days later and given instructions for my audition which I had to RSVP through the audition site. We got there at about 6:45AM as I was booked for the 8am session. NBC did some interviews, especially of the costumed acts. While checking in they ask for all your paperwork and a valid picture ID. They then provide you with a number. We were called into the lobby at around 10:30 and Nick Cannon showed up and we taped some spots for the show. At around 12:15 they started calling groups of 50. It was somewhat unorganized with them directing people downstairs and calling out the numbers in the lobby. Luckily I made my group and they took us in in groups of 10. Producer, assistant and cameraman. Stand against the back wall, step up to the “X” on the floor, introduce yourself and do your 90 seconds then step back and the next person goes. They really gave no indication of what they were feeling as everyone is made to feel welcome, good or bad (from what I saw) and we were told they would let us know in one to two days and that it would be a very quick process and they would try and let us know as far in advance as they possibly could. All in all, it was relatively painless. I met some really great people, too! I was told that some applicants were told that they definitely were not going through but that didn’t happen in my group. That may have been for other types of acts…I’m really not sure.
Anyway, now I wait along with the scores of others that were there. No matter how good you are, you have to keep in mind that they have a certain amount of slots to fill depending on the acts and ALOT of talented people showed up so don’t be discouraged if you’re not picked to compete as this is not just a singing competition. That being said, I wish the best of luck to everyone auditioning to compete this year!
I auditioned today in Fort Worth! They were only seeing 128 yesterday (Mar 14) and 128 today. There are no judges BUT they did tape each act (you had a microphone and could sing with music) and they GUARANTEE that your tape will be seen by AGT Production team. She don’t guarantee you’ll make it to the national auditions though. I got in line about 9:45 and ended up singing at about 12:15. It was so much fun! I still plan on auditioning in Houston, unless I get a call before then (fingers crossed)!
I wanted to add that the local NBC channel 5 DFW (Dallas Fort/Worth) news taped our auditions. I think’s it was great because the AGT gets to see a professional tape with a microphone and an audience instead of the regular video tape that were mailed in.
Oh, I sang “Better in Time
” by Leona Lewis!
Sorry for the typos, I’m still very excited..lol!
I auditioned in NYC on Saturday. I arrivied there at about 1 & sang/auditioned at about 7. It was a very slow process..but, they started speeding up at one point. They started calling at about every half-hour .. 50 people. I was number 901..so, I was first in my group. They split the people up…between either musicians, singers etc. I was a bit worried, so, I sang “My Heart WIll Go On”. There were three people in the auditionoing room, don’t know if I should call them judges, producers, or whatever. I was told that I was expected to use the room a little, as in either dance or move around…which got me extremly nervous & might have messed up my whole performance becuz, I have no experience in dancing or anything. The teens in my group were so sweet and supportive. My mom & I know that this is a tough competetion & that it would be a miracle if I won..not that I’m not talented..but that there are more talented people, this was a last minute thing for me, & I’m not well-prepared. I’m still the 12 year old girl with the unique, unusual BIG voice, with a HUGE heart & a mind that ‘hopefully will influence the world’. So, we’re just cooperating with this contest. Whatever happens, happens. If I don’t make it to the next round, that’s all…I won’t make it to the next round…simple as that. If I do, that’s great! Within a few years, I will be very determined, working hard to get vocal/piano lessons, possibily dance, & so much more. I can’t be garanteeing that I’ll be auditioning again. I’m pretty sure I have so much more plans if this doesn’t work out!
Native,
If you see anything online from the local NBC channel 5 DFW (Dallas Fort/Worth), I’d love to have a link to it. Then, I can post some of what they have for others to see.
Thanks.
So, here we are the day after auditions in NYC. I’ll admit to clutching my phone all day and checking ym email like a maniac. Our group was told that it was going to be a fast process due to the actual taping of the show later this week and that we would be notified of a callback within a day most likely. Welp, the day is just about over and no call. I honestly didn’t expect to really make the show but I’m super pleased with my audition! It was fun and I feel good about what I gave which is really what it was all about for me. The chances are truely so slim to make reality show wheather one has talent or not. I’d love to find out though if anyone recieved callbacks for Boston or NYC anyway. Good luck to to those who have yet to audition!
Thanks for sharing the experience Kristie. I’ve been through many of those waits and they are killer. Hopefully they are just waiting until tomorrow to notify you, but like you said, there is a lot of talent and the experience is worth it for the memory if nothing else.
Oh I’m hoping the same thing LOL That’s why I’m on the computer bright andf early… checkin’ that darn email “just in case”
The tapings start today in NYC so I can imagine they have probably called lots of people back already. It does seem possible that they might still make some calls today though since everything was so last minute with regard to the actual NY auditions and when the tapings were going to happen.
Still holding out with a little hope here… it’ll be so interesting to see who actually made the show. There was a little girl in NYC, probably 8 or 9 years old and this kid could seriously sing. I can’t imagine her not making it. She was very polished and had a coach. I’d be willing to bet we’ll be seeing her.
Ah, I guess I didn’t make it to the next round. But, that’s okay. I’m not so ‘cheery’ about going this year, either. Well, I was going to start auditionining & everything for possibly other movies, & start publishing..but, I want to see how AGT goes when I’m 16. I’ll wait till’ then to do those stuff. At least I can go to the Twilight premiere now xD. Good luck to everyone else. I believe that I was talented, & just did not stand out.
haha i def agree with kristie and michelle :] i already told everyone here i didnt make it, but im hoping i can go back and say oh wait i did! yeah slim chance i know… please post it on here if u made it id lve to know. again good luck everyone who did make it to the 2nd round!
I’m pretty convinced it’s over for the NYC taping after no call or email today… I suppose there is one ioda of possibility left. Boston auditions? I tried out there too and I guess it’s always possible to get a call back for that up until May. That’s what they said at least. Oy. Who knows. I guess a little more certainty would be nice. I’m not really sure I understand why the producers chose to leave everyone in limbo as to when call backs would specifically take place. Kinda makes people a little crazy. I still had a blast at the audition but now I’m really wishing I knew all around just to have it final for myself. Ack.
Kristie,
I can really appreciate and relate with the pains of waiting. My wife HATES it when things are in limbo. She goes absolutely nuts. Even if it is bad news, she’d rather know right away.
Just speculating on the producer’s perspective…they leave you hanging, because they can. Can you imagine the increased cost to notify everyone? Plus, a less painful reasons is that maybe they aren’t totally decided themselves. What if they make it to a city and there just aren’t enough quality acts. If they told everyone from previous cities that they’re out, then they couldn’t go back and change their minds and invite them.
Basically, it makes sense that the producers want to leave as many options open as possible to create a great show. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s really all about.
Makes sense… I think it might have been neat for the show to tell everyone something like, hold on to your hats for a while because you could be called back to ANY city or here’s your time frame. They sort of did the time frame thing but it seems to be slightly inconsistant according to all the contestant feedback. Then again, we’re all relying on the word of strangers so who knows who’s giving accurate info right? LOL!! Such a whirlwind. I suppose that’s part of the fun.
I really am thinking that they will be doing callbacks to other cities for some people. The time frame was just so quick for NYC that I can’t imagine the producers really had enough time to make good decisions. I can definately empathize with what’s on their plates… LOTS of people and only a few spots for the show. Did I mention almost NO time? LOL Interesting to say the least.
Above everything else I hope to see some awesome talent! It does bother me a little when I think about how reality shows are put together. Several of the available spots for talents competitions seem to be filled with entertaining acts which are not so much talented as they are funny because they are shameless. Definately hilarious and fun to watch which is obviously why so many people tune in, but a little discouraging if you think about the opportunity that might have been missed for someone with serious talent. Who may have been passed up for that spot? It always seems like by the end of the show the people who are left couldn/t have possibly been the most talented people that came through. Again though, the workings of reality TV and facts that have to be accepted. It is what it is, right? And regardless of our picking the process and shows apart- these are all the reasons we all love it
UGH! I havent gotten a call
its been waaaaay over 3 weeks. and i thought i did really good. and not to sound like bitchy and braggy and stuff, but i’m good. so whatever. i think i’m gonna send in a video cuz the website said you can do both. good luck to everyone else
I am really bad on singing but very good on dancing. Can I audition?
hey i tried out for americas got talent two weeks ago and a day ago. i tried out when they came to beaumont and im a singer. im wondering how long it will be for a call back. i thought it i okay but like i dont like this wait. and me and all my friends thought it would be around 2 weeks. and it been 2 weeks so im jsut wondering how long it usually takes for someone 2 get a call back after the perform.
Elie,
You can audition no matter what your talent is.
lisa,
It’s hard to say how long you have to wait. The AGT producers don’t even know until it’s almost time. Just watch http://americasgottalentauditions.com/ and they’ll post updates as they happen.
I have a few questions.
Do you have to pay for transportation when you arrive into the show? If so, when? After the second round…after you meet the judges…?
And, also, can you perform more than one talent? Say I wanted to sing, and do some gymnastics..maybe a magic trick. Would they allow it? Or is it too difficult?
I will be auditioning later on in my life, & it would be nice to know that I can start training.
hi im a female rapper and i love to rap!!! I wanna be a star and be famous i love what i do
I READ THE REQUIRMENTS FOR SUBMITTING A RECORDED AUDITION. I FEEL THAT IT IS UNFAIR TO RULE OUT ORIGINAL MUSIC. I’M SENDING MY DVD
ANYWAY.IF YOU DON’T VIEW IT IT’S YOUR LOSS.
”C.J.”
Hey Cary,
First, you should know this is just a fan site and the producers won’t see what you wrote. You’ll want to go to the official site to get them directly.
I would just say that I don’t think they ever ruled out original music, but I think they encouraged having a cover since that’s what they want to be on the show. Original songs just don’t produce as good of television unless it’s so original like the 2 violin players last year.
JOHN; I’VE READ ALOT OF THE QUESTIONS/COMMENTS
/ADVICE ABOUT SONG SELECTION. I KNOW THIS
PROBABLY DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU BUT,
I BELIEVE VERY STRONGLY ABOUT THE MUSIC I’VE BEEN WRITTING IN THE LAST 6 MOS. THEN AGAIN, I REMEMBER HOW I WAS TREATED ON ”THE GONG SHOW. AND WHAT A JERK CHUCK BARRES WAS. IS THERE SOMETHING I COULD SAY TO HAVE MY RECORDED AUDITION VIEWED DISPITE BEING ORIGINAL MUSIC? OR AM I JUST WHIPPING A DEAD HORSE?
ONE MORE. DO ANY OF YOU REFER TAPED AUDITIONS
TO ANY OTHER SOURCES?
”C.J.”
Cary,
I’m not doubting whether it’s a good song or not. It’s hard for a really famous artist to do an original song on TV. It just doesn’t happen, because the thing that is most popular on television is songs that are familiar to other people. It just makes for better television.
As far as getting your audition heard, I was told that they’d be listening to all the video auditions that were submitted. At least that’s what I remember. I’m just not sure how well received it will be.
I don’t know of other sources where you can submit it either.
JOHN; THANX FOR ALL THE HELP. I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION FOR YOU. SINCE I AM VERY NEW TO COMPUTERS AND AM BASICLY VOID OF NAVIGATIONAL SKILLS, COULD YOU HELP ME ONCE MORE BY SENDING ME A LINK TO THE PRODUCERS SITE YOU MENSIONED?
”C.J.”
Cary,
Sure, here’s the link to the official audition website: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
Also, you should know that typing in all CAPS is usually considered yelling and therefore is often seen as being rude online. I’ll give you some slack since you’re new to this as long as it doesn’t happen again;-)
JOHN;i am sorry for the typing in caps. when you are a member U.S. MARINE special forces you do develop an aggressive nature. after all they only take one guy in 100 for a reason. two tures in viet nam
w/two purple hearts probablly didn’t help. and, i believe that you should know that i never ment to
offend you or any one else. it’s my own fault i don’t have computer skills. maybe summer school? and thank you for the link.
and you are so kind to forgive me. how will i ever get over it!(ha!)lol…twice! i think you do this very well and hope you will continue to do this as long as the show lasts. you are an asset they may not fully value. but, i do. thanx again.
”c.j.”
Cary,
Not a problem at all really. The wink at the end meant that it was just being helpful and that i didn’t care too much, but was just trying to edumacate(yes, I spelled that wrong on purpose).
We love Marines on this site. My brother is a Marine and special forces are just some of the toughest guys that exist.
We’ll be doing this for a long time to come. As long as the show continues to be as popular as it has been in the past. Things are looking promising for another great season.
Best of luck CJ.
John. another question. will this site be up and running during the season? will there be any internet voting also came to mind.
RECON55
Cary,
We’ll absolutely be up during the season. Lots of coverage, stories, lists of music, etc.
We’ll have some of our own polls on the site, but to vote officially, you’ll have to go to NBC.com and find the AGT page. At least I assume they’ll have some online voting there.
I tried out and I’m waiting for the call and I’m really scared and nervous
Do they have to call you or don’t call you
I have a few questions that was neglected.
Sally and Michelle,
You might want to post your questions on the official AGT website: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/
They have made abundantly clear that they will only call if you make it. Otherwise, you’ll be sitting by the phone.
You definitely pay for the transportation for the initial audition. I’m not sure at what point the show starts paying. I’d assume Las Vegas, but I could be wrong.
You can do more than one talent. Just make sure both are great and that they work together. Otherwise, past contestants have gotten ripped for mixing 2 things that either didn’t work together or the one overshadowed the other.
Hi my name is madison i have been singing sense i was 4. singing is my pation. no matter what people say i keep singing. i have sang in many concerts and i can also sing in native american. i write my own songs and i have somebody to help make music but nothing further then that. and i just wish that i could come on the show this. it would be my dream so i AM going to follow it. See you this year.
madison,
I love your passion. This is just a fan site, so you’ll want to check out the official site for official details: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/
It’s still early for the next season, but watch that link and they’ll let you know when and where you can audition.
i applaud you guys …
but frankly im getting sick and tired of this singing crap!! … if you want to sing then go join american idol … if u get kicked then its a sign then ure just no good … period..
until there is a show america’s got singing….i suggest you keep ure singing crap at home…
im sick of this already!!!
I have a question. If you are a singer on America’s Got Talent, are you able to remix a song .. change it .. make it original? How does the system work? is there a few sound systems to blast music out or something?
I upload my video in February or March and haven’t heard from the producers yet. When will I hear from them. Thanks
Michelle,
I’m sure they’ll give you the support you need if you make it far enough. For the first auditions you’ll want to come ready with whatever you need.
TAM,
Remember this is just a fan site. The official site is: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/
With that said, the AGT 4 auditions are well over and the season is already running on NBC. You’ll have to try again for AGT 5 once they start accepting videos again.
I am a 37 year old male, with an above average vocal ability (2nd tenor). I was a singer and dancer for Carnival Cruise Line back in the 90′s, I write my own music, currently getting ready to hit the recording studio to cut a mini CD. I just graduated from college (Hotel Management), and made a decision to return to singing again. I am pre-registered for AGT, and will patiently await the audition schedule/cities. Here is my question. At the audition, must you sing Acapella, or can you have a CD with the instumental version of the particular song being sung? If I also send in a video tape ahead of time, can it contain instrumentals? Are they seriously looking for talent, or simply “gimmicks” in order to receive a call back? I have been through “A LOT” of auditions, and ready for waiting in long lines. I have the gift of a great voice, and hoping I don’t have to construct a weird audition act, in hopes of getting a callback. Thanks for any info or advice that can be given. Ahren
P.S. My inquiry is in regards to Season 5. Thanks, Ahren.
Comment #262 “Elliot” was rude and simply out of line. It’s a talent competition, and due to American Idols age limit, this is the best avenue for a singer. I’m a big boy and can handle rudeness, but mind your P’s and Q’s. Other’s may have their feelings hurt for no reason.
Ahren
Ahren,
Just so were clear, this is just a fan site so take anything that’s said with a grain of salt.
My personal feeling is that if you’re going to sing you better make sure you’re either off the charts good or have a story to tell. They are trying to produce a show and so they’re not going to put you on it if you’re just average or don’t have something that will entertain audiences watching at home.
I can’t remember the details on a capella versus instrumental. They should send out more of those details to you since you pre-registered.
Thanks John, appreciate the knowledge and advice. I nearly had a recording contract in 1994 with “Next Plateau Records (handled Salt -n- Pepa), after working for Carnival. Oh, what stories I could tell. Just decided to do a bit more growing up, go to college, and then pursue this again. I think I’m “off the charts” good, but then many do. We’ll see how it goes. This audition isn’t the only venue.
And yes, lol. I take it with a grain of salt in regards to #262. It was for those that may not have as thick of skin, that I was going to bat for. Glad I found your site. Ahren
P.S. I’m planning to sing “Careless Whisper” by George Michael, or “I Believe” by Blessid Union of Souls. Any personal opinion on either of those two? Must find a song that highlights my vocal range, which is quite high and strong. Only have 90 seconds to impress.
As soon as I finish an audition tape/DVD, I will upload it for a good public critique. I thrive on advice. Thanks again. Ahren Drew
I just recently went on a Carnival cruise. Good times.
Anyway, once you get a video uploaded, let me know and I’ll be happy to let you have it.
I would like to send in a tape and go to the Los Angeles auditions for 2010 Do you know when they will be and are they accepting video submisions and for how long. When is the cut off date for 2010 AGT. Thank you for the info.
Deakon,
It’s still quite early. They’re only accepting pre-registrations. This year the show didn’t do the auditions until much later. As I recall it was in early 2009 so you won’t need to worry until early 2010. Watch the official website listed a bunch of times in the above comments and they’ll post the dates, times, locations, and all the other details you’ll need.
when are the talent thing in pennsylvnaia? or new jersey around pennslynvaia though
They still haven’t announced it. We probably won’t know until maybe January for the next season.
yes im 17 ..ME AND MY TWIN SISTER LOVE TO SING…when is the next auditions for america’s got talent?
and where will ther be at?
They haven’t announced when and where they’ll be. Look at the links to the official site above to pre-register and they’ll let you know.
My name is Nathan Webb and I LOVE singing!
hai! umm.. i love to sing im a very good singer i have a lot of people do love my singing
HI JOHN.I was in the Chicago 2010 audtions.Had a great time.Anyone wanting to be a performer should enter.I went before judges and had to sing without music. They liked me and sent me to producers to sing again. They liked me but will not know until January if I made it.How do I prepare for the next round? The only cd’s I have are Karaoke cd’s and I use them for the back up singers.Do you think they will let me use them before the judges or will they have one made for me?How do I prepare?
Hey MTR,
It’s a good question. I’ve just assumed that the singers all provided their own background music. Although, sometimes they can’t clear the music that you bring and so I think they have some other music options that way. You should ask on the official site: http://americasgottalentauditions.com/new/ If you do and they answer, please let us know.
hi my name is nathalie and i wanna be in americas got talent and sig for my passion
as of 01-15- 2010 they had not finished looking at the acts in chicago.Today I went to the chicago site and they are giving free tickets to see the acts that will be picked to perform before the judges in chicago. The dates are April 27,28,and 29 2010.Now we know if we do not get called at least by the 26 of april we did not make it.
Good info MTR. Although, I’d say if you don’t hear by the end of April 28th. You never know if they might make a last second addition for the last day to add some variety or something. Unlikely, but possible.
HELLO, JOHN;
I TALKED TO YOU LAST SEASON….I’M C.J.
I RECENTLY WENT THRU THE AUDITION PROCESS IN
L.A. THE MAIN THING I CAME AWAY WITH FROM THAT EXPERIENCE WAS THE PEOPLE THAT HANDLE THE
PEOPLE IN LINE AND AT CHECK-IN.
I WAS ON “THE GONG SHOW” BACK IN THE DAY. THE PEOPLE THAT WORKED FOR CHUCK BARRIS
WERE ALMOST UNBEARABLE. IT WAS A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
IN L.A. THESE PEOPLE WERE THE BEST. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I DELT WITH WAS COMPLETELY
PROFESSIONAL, VERY RESPECTFUL AND POLITE, AND
VERY INFORMITIVE AND HELPFUL.
I’M HANDICAPPED. I DON’T WALK WELL.
I WAS IN LINE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS WHEN A STAFF PERSON CAME AND SAW ME SITTING ON THE COLD CONCRETE. HE GOT ME UP AND SENT ME AHEAD TO THE CHECK IN LINE, WITH ABOUT 1800 PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME.
I WAS THEN MOVED TO THE FRONT OF THE CHECK IN LINE INSIDE THE CENTER. THE CHECK IN STAFF WERE ON A BREAK SO I SAT DOWN ON THE FLOOR AGAIN. ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER GOT ME A CHAIR TO SIT ON.
ONCE CHECKED IN, I WAS SENT UPSTAIRS.
THIS WAS TO ANOTHER LINE TO GO UP TO THE ACTUAL AUDITION ROOMS. A STAFF MEMBER SAW ME
WAITING ON THE FLOOR AGAIN AND ASKED ME WHY I WASN’T GOING UPSTAIRS. I TOLD HER MY NUMBER
HADN’T BEEN CALLED YET. SHE GOT ME TO MY FEET AND SAID SHE COULD TAKE ME UP. AND SHE DID.
SINCE I DON’T KNOW IF I WILL BE ON CAMERA AGAIN OR NOT TO SAY ALL OF THIS…..
HOW IMPRESSED I WAS WITH THE STAFFS ATTITUDE AND PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE. THEY ARE A CREDIT TO THE BOSSES THEY WORK FOR AND I WANTED TO THANK THEM ONE MORE TIME FOR ALL THEIR SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE.THEY ARE WHY I EVEN SURVIVED THIS MONSTER ORDEAL….I THANK ALL OF YOU WITH ALL OF MY HEART AND I WISH NOTHING BUT THE BEST TO ALL OF YOU……C.J.
CJ,
Great to hear. I’ve heard almost nothing but good things about the staff at the AGT auditions. Let us know if you make it on the show so we can watch for you.
P.S. You should hit your CAPS lock key. Otherwise, it looks like you’re shouting.
JOHN;
NOT TO SOUND LIKE A SNOT…..I’M NEW TO THE COMP. AND HAVE HEARD THIS BEFORE. I’M NOT REALLY SURE WHY IT BOTHERS SOME PEOPLE. THE CAPS I MEAN. I’M A SPECIAL FORCES COMBAT MARINE.
I AM YELLING.hope you can take a joke….C.J.
AND I’VE HEARD THI
lol…well if you are yelling, then I guess it’s ok. Not sure exactly why were conditioned to see all caps as yelling, but it’s just one of those online culture things. Maybe it won’t matter once they institute the yelling font. Although, I really want the sarcasm font.
john;
I HOPE I MAKE IT TO THE NEXT ROUND OF AUDITIONS.
AND YOU HAVE SOME GREAT FONT IDEAS FOR THE DESIGNERS AND PROGRAMMERS….I WANT TO SEE THEM HAPPEN! I’D BE HAPPY TO KEEP YOU UP TO DATE ON THE PROGRESS OF MY QUEST.
I CAN BE THE GUY ON THE INSIDE AND
REPORT ON EACH STAGE I GET THRU. ON THE CAPS THING…I THINK I AM USED TO SEEING ALL CAPS BECAUSE I PRINT WHEN I WRITE…NOT SCRIPT.
I’D ALSO LIKE TO SAY I’M GLAD YOU’RE BACK.
I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK….YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A MARINE…….C.J.
John,
if you know Marines at all, you know Cary just gave you the ultimate compliment. This is a great website, quite informative.
Keep up the great work.
Sandie
Thanks Sandie. Glad you found it useful.
Yes, it was a great compliment. My brother is a marine;-)
My friend and I signed up to audition in Orlando in a few weeks, and she has chosen to sing a Christian Contemporary style solo. I am planning to do a song froma musical. We were both vocal music majors in college, but it’s been a few years for both of us…
It looks like it does have to be a cappella, and that’s no problem for either of us, but what do you think of these choices for styles?
Elizabeth,
It will be a cappella at first. My suggestion for style is that the style doesn’t matter. What matters is that you choose a song that is popular (makes for better television) and that you can sing as well or better than the original. If you hit that, you’ll do very well.
Thank you for the input…if I may ask, is it advisable to ‘costume’ to a degree if it correlates to the song? In other words, if one were doing a song from “Oklahoma” to have a Western style dress, or “Moulin Rouge” to dress more in that period or is that just too much?
This is a hard one to answer. I don’t think there’s any right answer. Although, I’d edge on the side of not dressing the period dress. Most of the people who dress from that period might make it on the show, but it’s to make fun of them. In fact, as I think about it, I can’t remember anyone that “dressed the part” that’s made it to Las Vegas. The only exception might be the yodelling dominatrix. Although, she screwed that up in the second round.
Your dress does matter though. For example, they like to show the story of someone raw and unrefined auditioning and then they work their magic and turn them into a refined, well dressed star!
Thank you, that’s exactly the kind of advice I needed…so glad this site is here!
Well, we auditioned! It was freezing cold and we had to stand outside a long time before we could get in at 8am to register..then they had us go outside for crowd shots. We were out for several HOURS, folks, and it was COLD! Finally auditioned at 2pm! Almost everyone was a singer, so competition very tough. They did put other people ahead of us in line due to age or other consideration.
They said we would know in late March/early April.
Good luck to all!
Hello my name is i am 11 years old i have a great singing voice (well at least my family and friends think). Well i have hurd that you guys are comming to Medford, Oregan, then i will tryout for you guys!!!! Lets hope you like me!!!!!!:-)

Hey…I just found your site! Thanks for the information..we appreciate it. My 6 year old was supposed to audition for America’s Got Talent in ATL, but we were snowed in so we sent a link instead. The website I’ve listed is her video I sent from youtube. She is super excited, but I have no idea what to expect. I would appreciate if you would check her video out…She has two videos, one is from Disney’s The Little Mermaid and one is “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fneepWd84hU)
Thanks!
Megan,
Very cute kid. I could see that on AGT. Reminds me of some of the other kids they’ve had on the show. She needs a little more performance value to really make it happen, but tons of people will adore the cute little one.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I’m glad you liked her. I think she was a little nervous with me taping her lol…she’s such an outgoing kid in person! Hopefully if they call her for a live audition she can show them that. This was totally her idea so I just hope they call for her sake! Again, I appreciate your help! Thanks!
john;

Well, I did not make America’s got talent for season 5 but what a great time my wife and I had in Chicago.I got alot of support from my family and friends and June 1,2010 My karaoke group is going to perform our first real show at the senior center in my home town.If you did not make it this year don,t give up because the experience of just being apart of the show is wonderful and for all of you who did make it I wish you the best, and above all else just have fun!
